Risky Homing

Ahoy there , the lightvessel NOORD-HINDER also served as a radio beacon for maritime navigation before GPS started.A ship could find the lightvessel by "homing " i.e. following the signal. A risk was : hitting the lightvessel....

Nice painting. Do you remember the 'Console' navigation system. Series of dots and dashes, plotted on a special chart.

Hello Jim,Do you mean a navigation aid like LORAN ? From WW2,based in Norway and intended to help the convoys coming in ?

No. It was the same era as LORAN and DECCA. I think this was for the North Sea. Various transmitting stations on both side. The chart had 'arcs' extending out from the transmitter with with dots and dashes eg . . . .———. Where the arcs from two transmitters crossed was your position.
