It’s 8AM Monday, and I have another plein air. This is the still growing bud (the only one so far this year) on my Peruvian Monstrose Night Blooming Cereus.
I think this is the first time I’ve done impasto and that was NOT the intent, as I wanted this to have a chance to dry at least a little by tomorrow morning, as I think the flower might bloom tonight. I had planned to paint thinly
I’ve been experimenting with greens, and when I laid the long column down with the knife, I really liked the way it looked, so I just went with it. The flower stalk, the darks, and the weeds were done with a brush.
        C&C welcomed!

oil on canvas paper, 5×7″ about 1.5 hours.

I like the painting and the idea of following a specific plant through a season. I hope you catch the bloom at a good moment. Gary

Gary, thanks! For me, that’ll be about 5 to 7 AM. I don’t know if I can get out there before 6, leaving not much time before the sun hits the petals and it starts to die. I haven’t seen any other buds starting yet.
