No, I didn't use wallnut ink, I used something that can be defined as 'wood stain' (it is sold as crystals which I dissolve in water). Thank you all for the comments!

I'll bet what we call walnut ink in America is what YOU call wood stain in Bulgaria!

I mix my walnut ink from crystals. . .

Beautiful work. Lovely to look at. I enjoyed the wallpaper pieces posted here the most because they were larger.

No, we do not use the term 'wood stain' in Bulgaria. We say ''байц за дърво" (The crystals I use are sold in hardware stores and the solution is used to stain wood)
I mean, what I use as tools and materials is not specially designed for calligraphy. Few people here are familiar with Western calligraphy and there are no calligraphy supplies.
I would like to ask all of you what kind of gouache you use to write light letters on dark (or black paper). I tried the best brands on Bulgarian market of art supplies (http://www.trinity4arts.co.uk/pages/gouache.htm) but still the problem is that either the paint is too thick to flow or too thin to leave a visible mark on black paper. Should I use acrylic paints instead?

Two works done a few days ago. Shadows in the background because of a bad scanner.

Light lettering on dark : can you get hold of Dr Ph Martins Bleedproof white? This on its own or mixed with gouache will give you a paint that covers well on dark card or paper. It's always going to be harder than on white paper because you want the paint thick enough to cover the coloured surface, but not clogging in your pen. I find I have to clean my nib much more frequently if I'm writing light on dark.
Keep up the practice!
Janet

A lovely quality of freedom in the second piece. My only real crit would be the "tailing away" of many of the letter S --- just a hint of weight I think would improve them.

Great variety and great skill.

I wondered if that slope back was part of his style? or not? Just wondering.....

Bloodgroove........I'm inspired by your passion for this art! I checked out your art on your site. I see a variety of different directions you are going with your calligraphy. Directions in style, type of quote, combinations of words, as well as compositions.
Keep on creating! Look at your work from a linear perspective and see which threads (direction) you would like to go.
I'm glad you posted here!
