Oil paint and mixed media??

Hi all
I'm hoping someone would be able to answer a question for me. My process at the moment is creating texture on canvas by lots of different methods. Be it fabric, paper, tile adhesive, gesso, beads, paints, etc, etc. I then paint over the entire piece (quite expressively) with acrylic. The end results are highly decorative , textured works, in bright vibrant colours.
My question is would I be able to use oil over mixed mediums such as these?. I'm wondering if I coat everything in gesso first would it work?. I'm just getting a feeling that the blending effect and variations of colours would look so much more vibrant with oils.
Thank you
Ellen

Oil can be added over any water media, including acrylics. Go for it

You are right Ellen, oil colours can be more vibrant, and since you like bright vibrant colours, I am sure you will love oil paints.

Gesso is made of acrylic paint these days.. which is why oil will work over acrylic

The rule to remember is oils over acrylics, never acrylics over oils.
The only thing that you cannot put over the acrylics is any wax based medium, like encaustics or cold wax.

i know this is not the same as house paints, oil and latex (water based), but you should not put latex and oil on each other. the contraction/expansion rates are different on these two. maybe as long as it is indoors the expansion/contraction are not that great???? just a question?
