I made a simple setup near my workspace so to better paint small still life, and in this case, to paint flowers. The goals with this 6×8 were to be better in all respects: design, clean and true color/value, drawing, and simplification of complex forms like the flowers to capture character, not all detail.
At the end of the thread is the finished painting which has some small corrections and edge work.
Lots of learning accomplished, and I do like this one-

Design is what attracts me to everything now days, I am always trying to design my arrangements of color, edges, focus, values, all of it. I feel like it makes my paintings better than just copying what I see, there is more decision making involved and I feel more connected to my finished work when I am done as well.

July 5, 2018 at 11:06 pm #653226Thanks Jessica– I appreciate it! These do have interesting leaves, and after too much fixing on the last, more care was given to the design.
