good enough for commissions?

i am looking for you're honest thoughts on wither i am good enough to do commission or not ? i am relatively new to horse portraits as such but i thoroughly enjoy doing them. my idea would be to do them for an equine charity so all of the payment goes to them. they wouldn't charge a lot so a masterpiece would not be expected. every little helps for this charity and i t would be a perfect way to help them out.

anyway here is a sample of one i have done. it is in derwent sort pastels:

i know the eye is a bit off but i have since fixed that. and the pic is not great but gives the general idea.

thanks !

Re: good enough for commissions?

"Arty"...you may want to purchase some artist quality pastels before you hang out your shingle. The better the pastel, the better the outcome, in my opinion. I do the same with my art for doggie rescue, I painted on-site a few weeks ago, they had raffle prizes, tickets were $1.00 each (US) and my box had the most tickets....it can be a great way to raise money. I think your portrait is good, I agree with you about the eye. What kind of paper did you use? You might re-think painting on a black surface. Hope that helps.

You have done a good job. But you also need to fix the horses nose. And work on some of the neck muscles. Get a bunch of pictures of horses and really study how the muscles tie in. Or if you can get hands on with horses it will help too.

Thanks fir the advice. If the charity like the idea I will definately buy black pastel paper and quality pastels as this was just a spare sketch pad I had lying around! And I particularly likebthe derwent pastels.
