Hi Nancy!!! Sorry your cardiologist was a disappointment (too bad we can't rate doctors like we can rate products on Amazon.) Maybe your PCP can recommend you to a geriatric specialist? Is this the same guy that gave you the same diagnosis a year or so ago, before it turned out you needed that heart monitoring vest?

Now that you mention it, Marcia, I think it was him!

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... June 2018

Marcia, that dinner sounds really yummy. How you can tolerate temps in the 100s is a mystery to me. But it was dreary and a little muggy here the last couple of days, which isn't too pleasant either. I've lurked in WOYE and that rock is amazing - gorgeous texture! Looking forward to seeing the lettering. I hope you make it to Santa Fe, and, even more so, wish you the very best on the National Park exhibit! Break a leg!

Becca, our weather seems to be similar again. I hope next week will bring your longed for resolution to things in CA. Best wishes on coming up with new solutions for the excess painting issue, too. Donate them to be auctioned for a good cause, maybe?

Glad to see ya back, Nancy! That sounds odd about your doctor, as if he just didn't remember you at all. Maybe your PCP can refer you to someone else for a second opinion (and maybe a switch of providers)?

I've been busy with a variety of things, and not getting as much done as I had hoped. But I did get my latest painting is posted in the main forum; this time I think it's an acceptable photo!

Marcia, thanks...eventually the right solution will come...

Annie, nice city scape...good choice of colour...
one thing I will not do is donate the paintings...that is 100% out...have donated plenty for various causes, but not this group...thanks for the thought though.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... June 2018

Happy Caturday Oilycats!!!

Annie, thank you on all counts! I will be posting on WOYE shortly.

To be honest, I do not tolerate the heat well. I try to get as much done as I can as early as I can, and retreat into my various 'caves' during the worst of it. This house runs 100% on solar, so I can run the AC in the library/studio without worrying about a high electric bill. The rest of the house relies on a swamp cooler. It isn't as efficient as the one at my house, but it does okay. Yesterday when I was running errands, I tried to get in and out of stores, etc, as fast as I could, before the inside of the car heated up. There isn't any covered parking here.

Becca, have you tried getting representation in a city with a better art scene? I am kind of surprised to hear that Portland is so limiting, I would think all styles of art would thrive there. I am finding that local subjects sell best here. I painted guitars and koi, just to name 2, and everyone gushes over them, but no one buys them. And I have heard that figure paintings are a tough sell too, but yours are not so much representative of a person, but elicit emotions.

I am going to start prepping for a large canvas today, now that the ones targeted for exhibits are done.

Marcia thanks for your thoughts, and yes, have considered it, just haven't had the time to research properly and then submit....and thanks again...

very grey day here again, but sort of warmish out .. not bad, and though I enjoy the heat, I can get too much of it too...

I hear ya. Time seems to be the most thing I have the least of!

You golden hour and night photos are always so fine. I do light cityscapes at night.

Marcia, I looked at WOYE and saw your painting - what a great painting that is! I never have even tried painting anything so full of rock, but you're terrific with it!

Annie, if the soft edging in your canvases is actually there on purpose, I can't see that you have any trouble with a camera. It's lovely.

Becca, You might try contacting galleries in other cities in the west, and send them some samples of your work? I'm just glad you've stopped throwing them away!!!

I have two Cryptoquotes today, but I don't know quite what to think on the second one!

"Words are often seen hunting for an idea, but ideas are never seen hunting for words." Josh Billings

"Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot. others transform a a yellow spot into the sun." -Pablo Picasso

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... June 2018

That is a good Picasso quote! It could mean that some simplify large things into simple ones, and other might make something simple into something much larger. The idea of interpretation being subjective, based on the individual perception, is incredible. "Change the way we look at things, and the things we look at change" - Someone once wisely said.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... June 2018

Thank you Nancy. The last painting I did that featured rocks, I wasn't pleased with, but it sold, so maybe it was just me.

Interesting quotes, and nice interpretation, Delo, I agree with you. Had the second one come from a different source, it could have been a critique of skill level. The former being poor, the latter being excellent.

My gallery is having their annual open show opening tonight. The weather's not as hot as yesterday, 96º compared to 107º, so it may not be a bad evening to go out.

I just wired the three paintings, and realized the bottom of the quail piece still needs painted. I will have to attend to it tomorrow. Right now I am about to start sketching in a 30 x 48.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... June 2018

Just think, Marcia...here I am in Oklahoma complaining about 96% being hot. But I hear that our July and August will hit the 100s and more, so I shouldn't complain about any of it. I'll pretend to be happy with it, and see if that helps any.

Delo, thanks! I needed your brain to see what he was talking about, and you explained it beautifully.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... June 2018

Nancy, and everyone, I think rather than trying to contact galleries regarding my inventory I really need a fresh body of work first, and that is coming more slowly for me than in the past, but thats ok too...anyway, thanks for your support...

and those were some interesting quotes today...
