Re: Artists A - Z ---GOYA

I love your ink studies of Goya, Robin. Great scribbley ink lines. Have you thought of adding white wax resist on your ink studies like the 'underground' drawings of Henry Moore?

The exhibition I saw of Goya was divided into very distinct parts. In the first room there was all this beautifully coloured, neat, precise, 'jolly' work and then in the other room...the dark sombre visceral illustrations. In another room, there were the ink experiments, which were like ink blots worked up as I remember. I remember I liked room 1 & 3 at the time.

Reminds me, I haven't been to our local gallery in ages. Maybe I will pop in this week! Not that they have Goya there.

Jennifer, lucky to get so close up to Goya's sketches. I like your bull-fight studies, especially the rear legs! . Were you able to do the studies on the spot?

Re: Artists A - Z ---GOYA

artbyjune, yes, the museum allows sketching in graphite pencils (not mechanical pencil, though). The print room shows its art in the reading room of the library, so you can work is a nicely quiet environment. There are two big cases of Goya's sketches and was allowed to handle them myself and to work at my own pace with them, choosing which I would like a close look at, going back for another one.
I want to ask next time if I can take photos of the bullfighting scenes because I would like to work some more on them at home and there are just no big copies of them to be found online.

azulparsnip, I really like you Sleep of Reason, especially the cat on the right.

Re: Artists A - Z ---GOYA

Wow, look at all these studies. They all have that flavor of Goya.

Robin, your last two pieces of ink and pen work is superb!!! Love the darkness of the left hand side piece.

Janet, a few strokes of your charcoal and they work so well already. Love your reading horse!!!

June, thanks for the WIP. The underdrawing really works.

Jennifer, you're so lucky to be able to "handle" the sketches. Bull fighting has a lot of tension. Great studies!

Tomorrow, I'll go to the library and see if I could get one of his books. I need to do more!!

Re: Artists A - Z ---GOYA

Link to some of the caprichios (dark drawings) videos on youtube:

There's a video for each etching in the museum exhibit.

Has this link been listed in this thread. I can't find it but if its a duplicate...apologies.

Sandra and Janet, the charcoal and graphite powder studies are wonderful for capturing the atmosphere and the forms. I haven't had time to do any of the darker works. I haven't really looked at them in detail yet.
