Connie, thank you for the great images….I have to do more.
I had a lot of fun doing this one. 9 x 12 watercolor on Arches 140 lb paper. About 2 hours. I just did a workshop with Vladislav Yeliseyev a Russian artist and tried to apply (try being the operative word here) what I learned. Here’s a link to his work. https://yeliseyevfineart.com/dataviewer.asp?keyvalue=66242&page=Originals

October 9, 2018 at 8:04 pm #709723Oh Wow!!!! Outstanding work. Love those water reflections. A very elegant and sophisticated piece of art. I’m always so impressed with the watercolour pieces. Thank you for sharing with your artist as well. You have done a splendid job. Makes me want to try watercolour one day.

You have truly captured what struck me the most about this ref — the play of light and shadow over everything. You have simplified a bit, which is a spot-on artistic decision, since the ref is soooo busy. In your version, you can emphasize the important aspects in a neo-Impressionist way that’s somewhat bolder than some of the original masters. (Not that I really know what I’m talking about – LOL – it just seems that way to me.)
Thanks for participating and doing the challenge by keeping in mind some of the principles you learned from the workshop with Vladislav Yeliseyev. I visited the link you supplied and, yes, he is quite a master with WC. His workshops look great. Appreciate learning about this fine artist whom I did not know before. Glad you had fun doing the painting!

October 10, 2018 at 5:17 am #709730Really well done. The perspective sweep of the bridge grabs our attention but the water, background and particularly the foreground foliage make the composition. Those forward leaves are beautifully done.
C&C always welcome.
Instagram harry.hamillOctober 10, 2018 at 9:02 am #709729Thank you everyone! Connie I laughed out loud at your comment about not knowing what you were talking about…you had me fooled! I usually fuss over paintings trying to get details, and while he had amazing drawing skills (he was an architect) he said we don’t paint things, we paint lights and darks, so I’m trying to focus more on that, and the mood of the scene, which in this case, as you said, Connie, is the brightness of the day. When you’re focus is on details you can lose that. For his palette he has only a few colors… he said more in line with what the masters used..yellow ochre, browns, a couple of blues and red. His painting style is very loose and bold, and it’s quite the opposite of how I paint, but a lot more fun.

October 10, 2018 at 8:20 pm #709732Looks like a success to me Bunny. Excellent variation in tones, really like the light colours popping through the sky in the top right hand corner.
