Moonlight Maiden

After a couple tweaks on the image, I had in our sketch thread, I decided to go ahead and give it it's own thread.

It's Erengi's with Sennelier's white (my Erengi whites are all used up), on "Yes" watermedia canvas (it's a portrait weave and it's ground has a lot of built in tooth), 11 by 14 inches.

I know the piece has a number of issues, the figure is backlit but my attempts to darken the dark side of the figure just didn't look right so I'll pretend that there is a 30 storied, mirror faced hotel, behind the viewer, reflecting light back to her darkside.

I'm going to leave the piece as is and perhaps someone at an art fair someday will like it enough to take if off my hands.

The reference photo is from Tatiana's OP Challegne of a year or so ago.

Hal, I'm digging this. It's also a bit different from your usual, or it seems to me anyhow. The lighting on her back doesn't bug me either.

The only thing I noticed was the horizon line. The sky and water runs together.

regards,
Cory

Almost a mermaid, Hal!...
I seriously love what You did here. It has a great mood, good light, changing of color in the water is great and model's hair color takes me right to her face...
Nicely done!

Re: Moonlight Maiden

Lovely romantic feel to this piece, Hal. A 30 storied mirror faced hotel? good one. The lighting doesn't bother me either....

Re: Moonlight Maiden

Hi Hal: I agree with the others, your new piece has a nice quiet mood to it - romantic if you will. I like the moonlight and reflection in the water, but what caught my eye was her dress and the folds - nice work.

Re: Moonlight Maiden

Hal, it's a really lovely picture. It has such a lovely feel to it - very peaceful and serene. I love the hair colour against the night sky - the two colours work beautifully together.
