Batman - Quick sketch

This was a quick sketch I did from a Batman action figure sitting on my desk. The background was quickly slapped in with a Sumi-e brush but the figure was done with my beloved bamboo quill pens and Yasutomo Sumi-e ink:

This is cool. The freedom with which this is drawn shows through. IMO its much more attractive than a careful and accurate rendition would have been.

Thanks Salman, that has been my goal since I have a tendency to get caught up in minute details and I have been really enjoying going more loose and free with my sketches and studies. I think that is why I have been loving the bamboo quills, you can only be slightly precise with them. The simplicity, but elegance and complexity in a way, of some old woodblock prints and Sumi-e and Chinese brush paintings have really been changing my views.
