I'm looking in and saying: Wow Larry is back!
Hope you don't mind my encompassing all 3 posts. LOVE the work and my favorite is "Sook". My wife and I are dog crazy. I showed her and she let out a big "awwwwwww" how adorable.
The portraits are so crisp and colorful. Good stuff Lad.

Wow these are both very nice paintings. The both seem to have their own style too. The top one seems more baroque, having that darkness to it and shadow, so that it's more moody, whereas the bottom one has much more light and seems more leisurely. Both are very well done though, and I can't pick a favorite. I like how you got the detail so well crafted in both of them; that must have taken some time. Great job with the light effect on both of them, too.

Thanks...they were both much fun.

I developed a habit of prepping paper stock for oil studies, and they helped remind me of the freshness and spontaneity I wanted to retain even though rendered more greatly.

Here is the study I did of my Sook sleeping.

6-1/2"x 9" oil on paper

Closeup...

You did well to capture the dog's personality.
Animals add so much to our lives.

Larry, I was wondering how did you end up giving the name Suklaa Kahvi to your dog? What is the story behind it? Just curious ..

Thanks for asking. I grew up with Finnish members of family, my mom and grandparents.

Suklaa means "chocolate" and Kahvi means "coffee"

Sook for short.
