Io's horizon

I think it needed some more layers, but it's gone now and I can't fix it? That ever happen to you guys?

5 foot x 7 foot acrylic on 17oz unprimed canvas, mounted on 3" popular wood stretcher.

Bold and powerful, it really gives the feeling of space. Unusual colors with the bright chartreuse and deep violet. I don't think it needs anything else. At that huge size, it must be very impressive.

Re: Io's horizon

This is a big painting with a lot of color and drama: I too have an idea for IO it won't be this large though, great work.

Re: Io's horizon

Largest painting I've ever done. I made custom combs and trowels from a sheet of left over plexiglass to smear and manipulate the paint. I had my air compressor up and running to move paint as well. It was next level for me.

Re: Io's horizon

I like this quite a lot. The shapes are wild, sort of like a gooey chartreuse taffy being stretched and pulled. Zooming, I can see a lot of layering that gives it depth and richness.
Iím stymied by the title. Is Io intended to mean Jupiterís moon? The answer wonít change my appreciation of this dynamic piece. Iím simply curious.

Re: Io's horizon

Yes the painting was inspired by Jupiter's moon Io. The most volcanic body in the solar system. With mountains higher than Everest and two hundred mile high sulphur geysers, I wanted to imagine the forces of Jupiter's gravity on its moon.

Fantastic work, Terry!

Love your Ed Whitney quote, too. He's a favorite.
