More exploring

34” x 54” Mixed media. WIP
Primarily acrylics on unstretched canvas.
Some oil pastel accents

Going for a completely different vibe, though it seems some
characteristics of my art are hardwired.
CnC always valued. Your opinions are helpful.
Thanks for viewing.

Re: More exploring

Interesting you say that about being hardwired ..There is a lot we absorb unknowingly from the world that is around us that we grow up in and we intuitively reproduce that..so you are bang on to try to get outside of yourself so to speak. Or get out of one's comfort zone so to speak. This I prefer to your other style if that is even the right word to use to describe art but you know what I mean. When I look at this I can feel you giving birth to new ways it feels looks realy fresh This piece is very exciting.

Re: More exploring

Great movement and color.
I would de-emphasize the white oval shape on the left side of the painting.
It seems to pull the attention away from the rest of the field.

Re: More exploring

Thanks to all.

tidal, I understand your perspective and can certainly agree. The pull to the familiar is almost gravitational .
Kenneth and Kay, glad you like the color choices and appreciate your enthusiasm.
Gwen, I totally agree with you on the white blob on the left. I'm winnowing it down quite a bit and think it will be a better painting.

Re: More exploring

Really love the colors, and the fact that I can see a lot of things in there. Kind of like looking at the clouds. Nice job!

Hey, this group has a thing about orange and blue-green! They're great together. I like this piece, and I compliment you on trying to push your boundaries. I know the feeling as I have been trying to do the same. Not enough success yet to post anything.
Kudos on this. The painting itself feels like an exploration, maybe into a cave.

Re: More exploring

Thanks very much vhere, Keith and Susan.
I’m still working away on it. Been using oil sticks to give more dimension to the color. I love the richness those pigments add, but the long drying times do try my patience. Hopefully I can post an update soon.

Re: More exploring

Interesting and energetic. The deeper darker blues seem to recede which gives it depth and dimension. It's abstract but quite earthy the browns and oranges and the deep blues. Well done!

Smile Re: More exploring

Thank you Christopher. The “earthy” description seems fitting.
It’s stuck in an ugly stage at the moment and I’m looking for the path out of it. It will tell me what to do, sooner or later

Re: More exploring

Still fooling around. The ugly phase has been quite persistent. Decided to be a little more assertive and scraped it down with broad spackle blade, then rotated to horizontal. Not close to being done, would love to known if you think this technique was a positive or a negative step forward. Thanks for viewing. Your comments are valued.

Charity Icon Re: More exploring

I really enjoyed the first rendition... The first thing that came to my mind when I saw it was a broken down but lively seaside boardwalk like Coney Island or Atlantic City in the 70’s, BUT, scraped it is another level! I am still staying ocean side with it but now it has been through a fire and survived or something, and I really dig it!!
