Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ January 2020

Yeah it has been quiet around the forum!

Richard your studio set up look very functionable and looks like its being put to good use!

Kay, Jo you guys are making me laugh

Jenna- sounds like winter is setting in good on you guys up there. We have our usual January chinook wind....."warmer" wind, but very high intensity...as in 50-60 mph or higher...not much snow usually in Jan as its are lowest precip month usually....My "snowdrift glaciers" in may back yard have diminished some due to evaporation. Still to cold for them to actually melt away haha

After all my chest pain has healed...now I figured out that I have been suffering from GERD (acid reflex, chest gas)all this time since my heart attack. I am confident that I may have a haital hernia (where stomach comes up through hole in diaphram)
My hypothesis is that I probably had a small one before heart attack and after the trauma of CPR it made it worse.....it explains all my current troubles. So now I just need to convince the doc and get it tested/fixed. Then I should be feeling great!

Hi to everyone else, have great weekend!

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ January 2020

Virginia had expressed an interest in seeing some photos I took back in April of my kayaking trip down the Buffalo. Just in case y'all were interested too I'm sharing a few of them here.

this first one is obviously of a waterfall. It's at Lost Creek just outside of Ponca. You can't tell from the photo, but the waterfall is about 75' high.

We kayaked from Ponca to Kyle's Landing about 10 1/2 miles. I didn't get any photos IN the rapids, and the pools are short and moving very fast. It only took us about 3 hours to kayak from put in to take out. This is just one of the many beautiful cliffs you float past.

This cliff is several hundred feet high.

This is my brother. We are just relaxing and enjoying the scenery as the current carries us through the pools. You can see the water. Even though it is a pool it is moving so fast there is a lot of movement in it.

I managed to find an eddy and capture a part of one of the smaller rapids we went through that day. Great trip! Where are all of the other kayakers you ask? There weren't any. The river was at flood stage and closed to the renters. You had to have your own boat and Jack and I were the only ones in our group. We didn't see another person for the entire trip. It was a once in a life time trip and to be honest not something I would want to do again at my age. If one of us had gotten into trouble it would have been a disaster. There is safety in numbers and one person usually isn't enough to help in a rapid. The water is very powerful when it is flowing fast.

Sorry to post these here, I didn't know how else to share them with Virginia. I thought you would like the barn. I find it interesting how barns in different states have their own personalities compared to other states.

Anyway, thanks for looking. My brother and I are going back down the Buffalo this June but we're bringing friends with us this time.

Donald

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ January 2020

WOW! Nice neat, clean and organized studio. Mine's a disaster at the moment. We're remodeling the closet. I live in a house built by my great grand dad in 1900. No insulation in the walls when we moved in. I've done a lot to improve it, but this closet is open to the attic and is the last room to insulate to help make the house warmer.

Ron, I had tonsil cancer in 2010. The doctors said that GERD was possibly the cause, they didn't really know why I got cancer. GERD had many bad side effects. I have problems with a stricture in my throat which makes it very hard to swallow. I've had my throat stretched about 10 times. They do an upper endoscopy and then balloon the stricture. The doctor finally talked me into taking a medication, I can't remember the name, but it stops the GERD by about 90 to 95%. I can eat pizza or onions again and I don't have problems with GERD. I LOVE the Loaded Italian sandwiches at ARBYS, but they have a banana pepper that has a nice flavor, but it does make my GERD flare up just a little. Good luck with your hernia.

Donald

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ January 2020

Jenna,

I love the photos! Thanks for sharing. I miss cats. When our pound puppy grew up to 50+ pounds he decided cats were fun to play with. He plays rough and the cats didn't survive. So I'm catless. He played with our chickens too. Tried many different things to break him of killing the chickens, a shock collar finally did the trick. It was either that or give him away or have him put down. He is such a pretty dog and good in other ways, but he is all puppy even at 3 years old. Maybe this spring I'll charge up the batteries and put the collar on him and get a kitten. I'm tired of the mice. I need a good mouser.

His name is Gibbs after the character in NCIS because of his bright blue eyes.

Donald

Amazing photos, Donald, and your mean dog is cute. You should get a kitten.

Happy MLK day to all! I'll be starting on your calf photo for the challenge. Still working on a 3 part commission that is coming along nicely.

Love the photos, Donald. Tricky eyes on your dog.

Not sure what I'm up to today. Hopefully art involved someplace.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ January 2020

Hello everyone. I hope you're all doing well today.

Hi Kay. Sounds like you've had some wet, cloudy weather. I hope it improves for you soon. Been crisp and cold here with a -30 windchill factor two nights ago. But it's better now, which is great! I laughed out loud when I read what you said about your grandfather. So funny! Oh, congratulations on your commissions! That's fantastic!

Hi Jo. I hope you get your sunshine back soon. I love the outlook you and Gene have on life - excellent health indeed. It's all in how you look at it! I'll take some of that Mexican spoon bread, please.

Hi Richard. That is an awesome studio setup you've got! I agree - I need music to create. Well, that's not quite accurate...I need music for sculpture, TV for drawing. It all has to be just so.

Hi Ron. I'm sorry to hear you've got some additional issues going on. I hope your doctors can get to the bottom of this so you're feeling better. Wind like you have does not sound pleasant. You'd laugh at my wimpiness - 25 mile-per-hour winds makes for a windy day around here. It's hard to imagine snow evaporating away.

Hi Donald. What a treat to see these photos! Posting them here in this thread is just fine. I love the scenery...it must be an amazing journey. Thank you for sharing! Gibbs is a stunning dog! Those eyes are captivating, and he looks like an energetic, intelligent guy. I love his ears. Sadly, that's the way between cats and dogs sometimes. Most times when we've had a young dog, they get so over-excited about "teasing" cats that it seems they've all ended up killing one. It always is hard when that happens, so I can understand why you choose not to have cats anymore. Maybe it will work out with the shock collar - or maybe he will mellow with age. Anyway, Gibbs is a beauty!

Hi Virginia. Nice to have you join us!

Well, not a whole lot is new here. Still working on some drawing commissions. I do have a bit of happy news to share. I've been accepted as an Active member in the International Society of Scratchboard Artists, which is an exciting step. Hoping it may open some new doors in the art world. Also, as you all know, the Packers lost last night. Bummer! We were close to the Super Bowl. I'm not surprised - those 49ers know football! I think they'll go all the way.

Have a creative week, everyone!

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ January 2020

Hi everyone, a sunny but cold morning in Alto, NM. We arrived yesterday. Today is my lovely birthday so plan on painting, going out for a nice lunch and a steak is in order for tonight. Yum! But suffering from a sinus headache that kept me awake most of the night.

Congrats Jenna on the scratchboard artist active member status. I know you'll do well with that.

Jenna, congratulations! You have a great touch with the scratchboard. Enjoy your “balmy“ days and your music.

Kay, Happy Birthday! Hope you feel better.

Nice studio, Richard. Music is good for creating.

No memo from anybody, Richard, just quiet around here.

Our last full day in the mountains then go home. Now I have a deep cough but it is getting better. Today went into town, Ruidoso, and got a hair cut and highlights appt. done so you ladies know how good that makes you feel.

Hubby is at the casino so hope he is doing well and not losing again, LOL! I really want to eat a really good steak tonight and like the habanero pepper flavor they put on chicken and beef, but it is hot!

Kay, one year we went to the Chuck Wagon Cook-off at the race track in Ruidoso- what a great time we had! The food was great!! We had breakfast - lunch & dinner cook by the chuck-wagons!

Richard, It has been quiet. In my case it is procrastination and laziness. Ruidoso is a great place.

Kay, hope your cold is better. Your dinner sounds great. Hope there were winnings involved!

Here is a song for all the procrastinators out there.... Our friends Greg Whitfield accompanied by George Ensle. Greg is an amazing guitar player.
