Scavenger Hunt 616 Dec 31, 2019 - Jan 8, 2020

If you've participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=366347

Here are the rules for the hunt:

*All items on the list must be sketched from life - not imagination or photo reference.

*Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.

*You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.

*All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.

Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don't have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt "week" will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.

Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.

*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyways. Commenting is appreciated but not necessary. ***

Sorry this is late, my reminder just came up again for the umpteenth time on the 30th and 31st. I'm getting too old or at least that is my reason.

#1 seasonal -- an ink sketch of Thai flowers called Millingtonia hortensis or tree jasmine or Indian cork tree. They usually are in full bloom during October-Jan...Thai mild/winter season. I went out to a walking track of the Univ. this morning and these trees were dropping flowers along the track.

Jo, I spoke too soon. I'll be unable to participate in your event due to separate obligations relating to my gratitude to the BBC for their Sky at Night publication and BBC Bonus Content. I just heard back from a friend and will be working toward healing that situation. It will take all my energy. I'm so sorry.

Pine Cone, we always miss you but understand. You are welcome to the Hunts any time and when you can. Con cariño, hasta luego. Au revoir. See ya.

Ai, lovely Millingtonia. So delicate and such flowing lines.

EP, hi there.

We have check ups for Gene tomorrow so hope to sketch today or at the Drs. while waiting.

And we're up and running...:-)

I added links to the previous hunts. Wonderful to view the sketches from hunts past. I can almost remember doing the drawings from 2012.

Joe - In case you don't see the previous hunt, the paper I'm using is Strathmore Toned Tan paper - https://www.amazon.ca/Strathmore-Spi.../dp/B008D2TU2G

Happy New Year, everyone!!!

Jo, thanks for the recycled list!!

Pine Cone, sorry you won't be participating in this hunt but your head will be among the stars instead...we understand.

Ai, congrats on being the first to post sketches. Those look like very delicate flowers!!!

EP, was I mistaken or is this hunt posted twice??

Jo — Thanks! I realize I wasn't complete, sorry. I plan to lurk several times each and every day, and maybe comment. No sketches though this time around. Thanks for understanding 💛

Joe — Thanks re: your comment on the previous thread — you crack me up So not true though No wine 😇 yet still couldn't write a straight line 😉

Joan — Thanks for understanding 💛

Joan again — WOW, Jo was right about the déjà vu. I did a complete double take as your new sketch loaded. I saw similar when I checked out #434 last night. I just checked again and yup! It's those beautiful rusty rushes I can't get enough of. (Post #13 back then.)

Such a superb painting...,.

Words fail.....

I got to the workplace much earlier due to less traffic. I did these to start my work day. The still-life set was done in directwatercolor style.

#2 tea in container
#3 art item -- Pentel Fude Touch caligraphy pen -- I highly recommend for drawing
#4 book

#5 something alive -- a small palm around campus -- done with Pentel Fude Touch caligraphy pen

Pine Cone, you could probably look at any hunt we've done and find a sketch with those rushes. lol That one included a bridge too.

Ai, thanks! Nice still life that you set up near the water. Good shading on the items.

Hope to get some sketches done today. I saw I did a digi in the old posted list. Maybe I will have to try my very old Art Rage program again. See ya later!

EP, thanks for adding the links. Didn't think of that. Fun! I haven't really looked back yet.

Joan, love the rushes and the lively look they have with the direct painting. Lovely.

Pine Cone, I liked Joan's comments that your head will be in the stars. I'm smiling.

Ai, the calligraphy pen serves you well. We don't see too many palms here. There are a few. Love the coffee set up.
