Re: January 2020 ~ Plant Parade Challenge

Shane - Beautiful painting and those stunning blacks are awesome! Well done!

Unfortunately, I am running so late with everything this month....mine is only half-way done, so I'm trying to work on it to get it finished in the next few days. Looking forward to seeing everyone's paintings.

Gosh it's the 25th already, how time flies. I chose the black dahlia in acrylics.
Amazing versions here already, love Christle's black tulip, so well done. Shane's black hollyhocks and Toowoomba's black hollyhocks too. I'm sure there will be more beautiful works to be seen soon. Thank you Kay for hosting and a belated Birthday wish to you.

Re: January 2020 ~ Plant Parade Challenge

This one glows, Christel, excellent choice! I like how the right side appears patterned

Imelda, you don't know it, but you ARE a natural with wc florals!! Wow, this is nice, loose, and captures the soft petals of the splendid iris blooms

A dramatic acrylic version of the black dahlia, Lil, that really resonates with the viewers. Thanks for the b'day wishes

Just finished mine late last night of the pansy, and as I stated earlier I will do the very large black hollies later on when I return to Texas then post it late. Medium is watercolor and it is 7.5x5.5 on Lanaquarelle hot press 140 lb. paper. Black was mixed with primarily alizarin crimson + thalo green, two of the top transparent colors, although cool in nature they work well with bits of UB and carbazole violet added to warm up.

Re: January 2020 ~ Plant Parade Challenge

Christel - Lovely form and color on the Tulip! Love your gentle gradations of black with the red!

Imelda - Great work on the black Iris! You've done an excellent job with rendering the lights and darks of this beautiful flower! I do hope you will enter more of our Plant Parade Challenges, as painting flowers seems to come so naturally to you!

Lil - Beautiful black Dahlia!

KreativeK -Love your black Pansy and those purples peeking through the black are terrific! I didn't know it was your birthday - "Happy Birthday to you!"

Here's mine - Watercolor layered washes on - 300gms Arches Hot-pressed watercolor paper - 20cm x 30cm
I wanted to try a layered approach to Watercolor with this one. I used Permanent Aliz Crimson first then when that dried, washes of Aliz Crimson and Winsor Green for my black color. Makes a lovely dark black but I didn't like the paper at all.....much prefer my good old Bockingford 300gms paper

Re: January 2020 ~ Plant Parade Challenge

this month I did lino-cuts. the cala got away on me and I got lost in the negative space, but here it is in black, and added colored ink
forgot to reverse the image before cutting so it is a mirror image, I mirrored the B&W print, but left the colored print as it was

then I did the tulip and was much happier with it

Zelda, your rose is so dramatic and romantic it takes my breath away. I was hoping someone would choose the dark thistle and you've made it come to life. Excellent work on both!
