Arrow DECEMBER 2019 Plant Parade

Hi and welcome to the final Plant Parade Challenge of 2019!

****Please Note from Viv (Moderator) .......Sorry to be late posting the November Gallery but the Gallery is posted now. Thanks for all your beautiful rose paintings and if you want to view the November Roses entries the link here;
http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show...6#post21701786

The theme for the month of December is:

"Not all leaves are green"

I still have trouble mixing greens for leaves - so how about painting/drawing plants where the main colour isn't green?

I've posted a few photos below for you to use as references, or inspiration. These are mostly from the RIL, a few from Pixabay, and two of my own (I did have more but they are still on my camera and I put it 'somewhere safe' last week and haven't been able to find it since). Of course you can also use your own references, or work from life, or a combination!

Reveal date: as the reveal is normally the 25th, we've decided to move it to the 20th December so it doesn't fall on Christmas day! Please don't post your images before the 20th - it's more fun if we all post at the same time. The challenge will be open to the end of the month.

And because it's Christmas - of course there needs to be Poinsettias!

Re: DECEMBER 2019 Plant Parade

Kay M - Many thanks for Hosting our December Plant Parade!
Our final Plant Parade for 2019 and love the topic of "Leaves which aren't Green". Lots of various leaves of all colors! And please note the early "Reveal Date of 20th December" - because of course the usual date of the 25th is Christmas Day.

Question - I have a Poinsettia plant from last year and it's lost it's red color, it is a very healthy (inside pot-plant) but the whole plant is now completely green! Does anyone know how to bring the red color back to the leaves????

Thanks for hosting a great theme, Kay!
Vivien - as far as I can remember, the leaves turn red with new growth in flowering season.

Re: DECEMBER 2019 Plant Parade

I haven't been having much luck taking part, always something, or another painting, calling to me. Maybe this time! Leaves in color is really a good idea. Thanks!

Re: DECEMBER 2019 Plant Parade

A great subject, Kay, and so many varieties do not have green at all. Lovely choices! I have two cordyline plants in my home with their rich purple reds!

Kathy, hope you will join us!

What a perfect subject for the season. Have always deeply loved Coleus, although I did not know its name until this post.
