Re: Scavenger Hunt #611 - Nov 21 - Nov 29

Regarding hunt 611 and the sketches posted so far:

Ai - great large and small. Love the wiggly lines from drawing with a mouse in MSPaint

Joan - fun large and small. Hmmm so you like avocados, hey? They are not my food of choice but I'll eat them if they are in something else, like inside a sushi roll or inside a burger. Oh! I thought your knees was the "has an annoying sound" and I was chuckling! Then I saw that "below me couch cushions" and thought that the blender likely isn't below you unless you are in the attic or on the roof!

Jo - another great large and small. Oh! Look at those old irons! You heated them up on the big black stoves (search for flat irons on this page: http://www.oldandinteresting.com/ant...s-mangles.aspx)

Karm - oooh a wooden box - looks so good! All that wood grain!

EP, my knees do make an annoying sound too...but not quite as loud as the food processor. Thanks for giving me a chuckle this morning!

Re: Scavenger Hunt #611 - Nov 21 - Nov 29

We went out to a day-trip to UthaiThani province. We stop at a famous temple which as a huge fish sanctuary area along the temple's river border. Thousands of big catfishes are hanging out there for their food and safety.
Thai people, often after pay the temple a visit, will go give fish food to these waiting fishes. I think Iris and Lily love fishes so much; they even broke their piggy banks to buy tons of fish food to feed them there.

#3 What I like to eat -- fish ...though I will never think of eating any of these temple fishes.

#4 What I don't like to eat -- a rare giant tree about 300-400 years old preserved in the middle of forest of UthaiThani province. Thailand has a good reputation for failure to protect natural resource. So once I learn of this giant tree; I have to take my whole family there to see it before it is damaged. This tree was spared 30 years ago from being bought to make matches with under $300 offer.

Hi Joan, Great idea for the noise, and below. I just got a new kitchen machine and haven't even opened it. You did miss that KarmArt is my adult niece, Mary, staying with us for a while. We've been sketching the some of the same things and did Inktober, too. It's been good for me!

EP, thank you. The irons are very old. I'm sure glad I never had to use them. I've sketched a couple of the others that opened and held hot coals inside to warm them. Ouch! Your Joan comments made me laugh.

Ai, love your sketches and some more history from Thailand. Hugs to you and family.

KarmArt, really nice job on the keepsake box. Great wood look.

Ai - so many fishes! Is the water shallow? Fabulous two page spread of the tree trunk.

Ai, thank you! That's quite a lot of catfish...and they get fed all the time. Nice sketch of them! That tree is so massive!!! You probably could have used another sheet to get up to the top. What kind of tree is it? That would have been horrible if they cut it down to make matches. I'm glad you got to see it.

Jo, I knew that Mary was staying with you and has been sketching with you...I just never made the connection. Nice that you have a bit of inspiration and encouragement to create so close by.

EP: Thanks... The water is not shallow. It is a big river.

Jo: Thanks. I did not realize that KarmArt is your neice Mary either. Hope she keeps sketching and posting here.

Joan: Thanks... Love your sketches... both are fantastic, the nature scene and the urban. The tree is one of local tropical trees found mostly in Thailand, Mynmar, Malasia, Phillipines. It is in Koompassia excelsa family as more info. here

Ai, thanks for posting the link. The tree has such a big trunk at the bottom but I see it narrows a lot as it goes up. It was amazing to see how tall they grow. It reminds me of a banyan tree that has a big root base and then narrows. But I don't think they get that tall.

Joan - great texture on the outside; indeed flood lights are above you. I know someone who will eat pizza uncooked.

Ai - if the water is not shallow then those fish must know they get fed at that spot so they leap out of the water "feed me! Me! Me!"
