Re: Scavengers Hunt #602 Sept 10 - 18

Jo, nice telephone, have a safe and nice journey.

Joe, I'm with Pine Cone, and I need to expand my vocabulary, what's that thing? the photo doesn't help at all, not much different to your sketch.

1- T-shirt
2- Telephone (mobile phone in the middle of the T-shirt)
3- Device (e-reader that works as a head)
4- Tongs (hopefully the parrot beak pliers will suffice )
5- Thumb (kind of thumbs up at the right of the image)

Took two challenges here, composition with 5 items and an unusual medium.
Colored pencils are not for me, I lost my patience in the T-shirt. So I used a touch of ink to "switch off.".

Colored pencil (except "switch off.") on an A4 sketch block.

Not even close.
It is a Boatswain’s pipe. Pronounced and often spelt Bosun’s pipe.
( That whistle sound you hear in Navy movies.). May have heard the expression of someone ‘being piped over the side’ Well that is the ‘pipe’ used to do the piping.

Hope you had fun trying to figure it out.
Joe

Individuo - super creative use of 5 items in a composition. You definitely met 2 challenges and should get bonus for the creativity!

Posted answer to the ‘gizmo’ I previous post. Also posted in last post so answer is in that thread. Hope you had some fun playing along.

Keep sketching
Joe

Thanks for all the comments.

Joe, the old phone was at the hotel. I don’t know if anyone uses it except to call the front desk.

Individuo, you definitely get the cleverness prize today! Love your sketch

Ai, thanks, I guess that would improve our memory in general and mine in particular.

Joe, thanks, oh yes I had fun playing. I lost a bit my patience with the T-shirt, but now it's back and told me not to fill large areas with one colored pencil again or it will be going for good.

Jo, thanks. Have you arrived at your destination? If not be safe on the road.

Individuo — you totally cracked me up - hilarious T-shirt person I want a T-shirt that has your entire sketch on it 😄 I agree with Joe that you should get a bonus prize! 🏅

Joe — I answered on the other thread, but I want to add that it would be amazing if you'd include more Navy memorabilia in your sketches, if you wanted to.

I've always loved the ocean, so I've been fascinated with jobs like yours. Yet in my own life, I've only waded on the edge of oceans, and gazed across them. As much as I love them, I've never had the opportunity to really get to know them in person beyond those edges, and glimpses, here and there.

I still have so many questions, but know you're busy and don't wish to intrude. But sketches might be a way to give us that sensibility.

I don't know anyone who isn't fascinated by thoughts of oceans, with their mysteries and powers and depths.

And people that survive and thrive on and in oceans, while protecting us, become part of that fascination. How do such fragile things as human beings manage that? What is your equipment like? What do the various modes of ocean transportation have that we don't, that allows humans to extend their lives beyond dry land? Etc.......

Jo, I love the push botton land line phone from the hotel. That is one of the few places I ever see them any more. Soon kids won't even recognize what they are.

Individuo, great composition with so many items coming out of the openings of the t-shirt. lol That is so fun!

All the comments about what Joe posted in the last hunt make me anxious to go back and see what he posted at the end. I missed it!

1 - tree - watercolors and ink
2 - t-shirt - watercolors and ink

Joan: Love your sketches both the charming tower/building and the artist in action...you got his shadow perfectly done.

Joan - the artist is well done right down to shadow as Ai pointed out, but there is something about the building that need drawing my eyes to it. All I can say is I really like it but cannot put finger on what draws me in.

Pine Cone - You mentioned frail humans, but when we did deep dives after yard work we worried more about frail equipment. You do your checks but in your mind is the fact that everything, including the hull, was built by the lowest bidder.

Jo

Keep sketching

Oh my!! I am super slow, just realized about all the items starting with T. And finally get the rest of the jokes . Buff!!, almost four days !!
The bright side is that I got all the jokes at the same time. An explosion of laughter.

Pine Cone, thanks.

Joan T, thanks. Your watercolor are always a joy to my eyes, so, two joys this time.

Jo, nicely done on the hand. I love those little scribbles in some parts, they work very well. Be safe.
