Thanks Jay, I started to do the Fox, but scrapped it. Wish I didnít, because I think I could have saved it, in retrospect. I have been ( pasteling? Pastel painting?) again lately, so maybe Iíll join in next month.

Re: The Spotlight - January 2019 - Winter Wildlife

oops, it posted upside down. Also, I made a little adjustment to the shadow along his cheek anyway. Hopefully, this one posts correctly.

Don, is possible to delete that last post? (Done!)

Re: The Spotlight - January 2019 - Winter Wildlife

I go to pans when I need to relax a bit Hope its ok to post off topic. I feel among friends here. This is 9 x 12 on Fabriano paper. (i forgot the name!) Pan Pastels. My reference. I (bravely ) included the reference. I would appreciate honest criticism. I know the cloud reflections are off but maybe next time. Thanks for looking.

Re: The Spotlight - January 2019 - Winter Wildlife

Hey Jay, Nice painting! Good atmosphere! The one thing that I notice is the foreground beach is much darker in the photo. I think making that area dark will accomplish a couple things: It will separate it from the water and will make it come forward. Currently, in your painting, I don't see a real difference between that foreground land and the water. And I notice that in your clouds, you have the nearest clouds darker, which gives your sky a nice depth. I think that by darkening the foreground land, it will do the same for the land/water plane.

Of course, I didn't actually try it out, so I could be wrong! You might want to try it out on the computer image first!

I agree with Don's suggestion. Everything works quite nicely in your seascape. Darkening that lower corner keeps our interest on the wonderful sky and water.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I really appreciate them, Don and Karen. Pans are so great to work with. I feel free to play. You are both too kind, you know. But thanks.

Re: The Spotlight - January 2019 - Winter Wildlife

Colors are very nice! That part of the sand by the shore really captures the wet look. I hope you post it if you make any changes and I like Donís suggestions, but it looks very pleasant and meditative as is.

Lovely piece Jay! I agree about darkening the beach. You may also consider lightening (if you can) the sky, especially in places you want to draw the viewer's eye. Just squint your eyes at the photo and see the difference in value between the clouds and parts of the sky. I know photos don't always tell the truth but in this case using more light could enhance your painting further.
