Re: The Spotlight - January 2019 - Winter Wildlife

I don't see problems with the houses or background, Jay, because I am focused on that gorgeous fox! For someone who doesn't do animals or fur often I think you did great! The fox looks fox-like in shape and color to me right down to his pointed snout! Here's a link to a very good tutorial and demo on painting fur that I found a while back. Maybe there are more animals in your future.

Jay, this is actually quite wonderful! You've used your imagination and made the story from the ref. The title is lovely. Quit putting yourself down, you did good!

Donna and Ruthie, thank you. I guess I was blaming the poor fox for my struggle. Thank you for the fur link Donna. Edit to add..the link is wonderful. Oh my, her animals! Thank you.

Jay, I agree with the others! Nicely done! The fox is well done! Fur only needs to be suggested (especially at that size) and it looks good!

Sorry, Jay, I don't see a raccoon. I see a fox! Maybe I need stronger glasses?

Re: The Spotlight - January 2019 - Winter Wildlife

Thank you for this interesting challenge, Don.

Ruth, that are gorgeous wolf paintings. The first one is more exaggerated, but the second is more dramatic and vivid.

Jay, your fox reads as a fox, not a raccoon and the houses do not look crooked either. You are to hard to yourself. The green red combo is nice.

Here is my contribution to this month, I chose the bird.
All kind of pastels on Tiziano paper.

C&C always welcome

Esther this is really nicely done, even down to the scraps this bird is enjoying!

Nicely done, Esther! There is always something special in seeing a cardinal in the snow.

Wonderful cardinal, Esther! I am amazed at the detail of his eye and the tiniest feathers on his head! They are really beautiful when they sit on pine branches.

Re: The Spotlight - January 2019 - Winter Wildlife

I haven't been on here in forever, but just checking in to see what everyone was painting lately. I'm glad I popped in, it was fun and inspiring to see the work. Ruthie, both new and old paintings were lovely, but the colors you used this time were really striking! Jay, I love the whimsy in your painting and in its title! Esther, I like the simplicity of design in your painting... just that striking red bird against the cool, blue snow.
