Re: The Spotlight - August 2018 - Your choice

Kris, Thanks for the kind words and the very nice, energetic sketch!

Peggy, Thanks for joining us! I have no idea how anyone can paint so small! Nice!

Re: The Spotlight - August 2018 - Your choice

Hi Don,

if this meant to be a poll, I vote for Jays suggestion about a nocturne as theme.
Could be interesting and I have never done one before.

Jay, adding the patch of colors is a real improvement. It creates a focus and therefor the painting grabs the attention longer.

Peggy you have nice textures and I like how the sea recedes to the background.

Kris you have a very vivid sunflower sketch. Is it finished or is it a WIP?

Cali, your turbulent sky is really bold and has a good light.

Here comes my contribution for this month.
"Ruchenköpfe" hard and soft pastels on PastelMat (30x40cm)
The reference was a photo I took this spring on a hiking tour, because the cliffs impressed me.

This time I had no underpainting as the PastelMat card was really dark, but I am not sure if this was wise.

C&C always welcome

Esther

Ooohhh Esther, I want to be there immediately! The colors are pretty similar, but you've created so many different textures, they work wonderfully! I especially love the scattering of spring flowers in the foreground. Really...I want to just BE there!

I did a couple sketches for a sunflower, but found that they were getting WAY too wild (I think)...I love doing flowers but have never tried sunflowers. I'll give 'em a go at some point I'm sure!

Again, great work!

Esther, I thought I had commented on your latest, but obviously my memory is failing! Very nicely done! You've captured the majesty and the grandeur of the scene very well!
