cafe michelangelo- september 2016

Hi all. Sorry I'm late posting this month.

I joined a bloghop which is to do 1 face a day during september, so that will give me an excuse to draw and paint faces...

Here's the link if you are interested.

Post your projects and WIPs, done this month, for us to see

Re: cafe michelangelo- september 2016

Hi June, your going to be busy drawing 29 faces. Sounds like you will have fun and I will check out your blog! It will be interesting to see what you do.
Hi Robin, Janet, Susan how are you all doing?

I've been gone most of the summer from WC. Kids have gone back to school and a new grandchild two weeks old. Most of the summer has been excessively hot, over 90 and still so this week. So I've just kind of tried to stay alive.

Thinking I will now have some time to paint.
I ordered some paints this morning, a few tubes of watercolor, a tube of white gouache, some brushes, the faux mongoose type, and a Finetec mica watercolor set. Don't they look yummy?
.

They are suppose to work well with calligraphy. I'm not sure how mica holds up long term?

That's pretty much what I've been up to.

Lovely gold paints. They do look ready to go!! Looking forward to your paintings. I have a gold and silver in my Japanese set but haven't used them.

Re: cafe michelangelo- september 2016

Good to see you have the Japanese set!

I've been poking around on the internet this morning and found this.

I love it! I love the bravery of the young boy fighting that ferocious eagle!
Also love it's in the round. Leighton was a marvelous painter.

That for sure looks like a big bottle of Chambord liqueur.... Guess that is just in case.

Frederick Leighton. A Boy Saving a Baby from the Clutches of an Eagle. c. 1850. Watercolor, diameter 31 cm. Private collection.

Hi Nickel. That painting is so full of action!

I sympathise with you in that heat!! I don't like hot weather myself. The worst places for heat, where I've lived for a few months each, were Rarotonga and Thailand. Both hot and humid. It was like living in a sauna,

Being Scottish, I guess my genes love snow and cool air!

Hi June, lovely places you have lived.
My best friend is a little blast of air condition.

You mentioned your heritage, Scotland.
A fondness in my heart for your country.
Love Robert Burns

Here is a painting by Sir David Wilkie. Isn't she beautiful. I love how the blue sets her mood.

The portrait by sir David Wilkie is lovely Nickel. Did he do many watercolours? I must investigate.

I got a Dover book yesterday: Old master portrait drawings. works by Titian, Durer, Rembrandt etc. Lovely to look through.

Glad to see everyone is busy and productive. I am still suffering the after-effects of the flu, and did not get much done, except these two 10 x 8 inch panels:

And then I am working on one that looks like it might work out nicely, although that remains to be seen. Will probably complete it tomorrow...

So I managed to complete the one I referred to yesterday. Here it is:

My whimsical title: Lucy and the sky with stars. :-)

Acrylic on board, 420 x 297 mm (which around here is size A3).

Re: cafe michelangelo- september 2016

Brian, really like the brightness in your color choices. Beautiful. Especially like your kitty cat. My neighbors' cat has taken up with our new dog. They are best buddies. Hope you are feeling better.

June, you lady is full of mystery and intrigue. Beautiful. All those strips, excellent fashion statement.

Here is a Paul Gauguin.
Mimi and Her Cat. 1890.
Gouache on cardboard. Private collection.

This kitty is too busy getting loved to look for her starry night.

Re: cafe michelangelo- september 2016

Hi Nickel - good to hear from ya….I think I have a pod of that I ordered recently….haven’t used it yet ……..this is a good reminder…..I’ll use it a post something here….you do it too…..Wow, congratulations on the new arrival!!!

June - I like this face….she reminds of my daughter in law whose face and body is all looong…..and delicate….inside she is a tender dear too, but those tender words keep my son in line like nothing else!!! she is awesome…….Both my daughter in laws amaze me……

Brian - wow, I was thinking how lovely it would be for you to make larger forms to go with the smaller formats but I did not want to direct you and here it is……COOL….and you cat looking out the window gives me a shiver because I’ve been thinking and missing Janet …and she always painted cats just like that………
Sorry you’ve been under the weather…….bye the bye, how is your cat? did he finally get settled in?

Here's a recent coffeehouse sketch

She's nicely settled in and once again fully in control of her entire household and staff. :-)

I wouldn't mind painting larger, but at the moment space is a bit of a problem - both space to paint and space to store all the huge paintings. :-)
