Yes, I know what you mean. I can remember years ago, it was living, breathing the current painting and the next painting always on our mind.

Seems I am in a dry period. Saying that makes me think I do have pastels waiting to explore a little later outside so I don't have to worry with the dust. Today, everything outside is tinted pollen color. Rain is expected and a blessing.

I seem to suffer from sensory overload. A nice way of saying I carry around too much to do.

Dry periods I use to read, daydream, ponder solving the problems of the world. or aghast, binge watch Outlander.

Not so great for finding something to post here when you all would like to see some art! Hugs, I am so happy to see all the post here and what you all are doing.

It's not so much not having an idea to paint, it's the having of too many ideas. Requires focus.

Maybe an adventure is needed such as the image below. Dreamed I was an archaeologist who raises baby dinosaurs. Dear husband says that is a wrong career move.

Statuary of fake stone is about as kitsch as it gets, but somehow makes a nice subject for drawings:

I am impressed with the art work. I think sometimes its a matter of just keeping on going...a tiny piece of art and then another...until you build up momentum for larger work.

Re: Cafe Michaelangelo ~April 2016~

Here are a couple of tulips from a pot in my teeny garden. I've been waiting for them to turn from green to colourful ...for ages!!

Today, I got an electric wax melter, which is meant for melting perfumed wax to scent the house, but I am going to use it for encaustic projects!!

Re: Cafe Michaelangelo ~April 2016~

Brian - Don't know why but I'm just now seeing the work on humble cardboard....AMAZING work, Brian....truly....the fact that you continue after such achievements testifys to the joy and increase you get in each undertaking......thanks for sharing.

Susan, lovely warm composition......endearing and peaceful.

I did another take on the landscape in the photo paintalong on a folded journal book I made according to Nickel's posted instructional pdf. I'll post it soon.

Finally getting caught up on cleaning and yard work. Today I must scan all the work I did at the beach so I can post it to the blog.

Here's hoping you have some time someway to enjoy art expression.

Thanks for the kind words. After a series of paintings in that style, I veered off course a bit towards a sort of post-impressionism, and then got tired of that, so now I want to make a return to oils (been working a lot in acrylics) and rediscover that kind of "painterly realism".

It makes me nervous, because most of those paintings were a bit of a battle and they never quite satisfied me. They will if I can get them a bit more refined. Of course, they will never be good enough to my liking, which is, I suppose, a good thing. It's what keeps one going.

A quick and fun sketch of the deliciously evil Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars:

I have long thought of doing a whole series of portraits of infamous people. We're well on our way, what with Emperor Palpatine and Don Corleone. :-)

And another sketch, in ballpoint:

I used a still from the first "X-Files" movie as reference. I'm beginning to think that film stills make for very nice reference material for practice. We should really do a whole project on that theme.
