Re: Classical Art 1st "Junk Journal" Project

Hope this is on going. I seem to be having trouble putting the journal together. Guess I need a dummy course

Re: Classical Art 1st "Junk Journal" Project

Janet, there is really no right or wrong. No stress.
I had trouble putting mine together. It took me several tries to
finally get it assembled. I have really big holes in the binder
were I had to re-thread the signatures and cover. More than once.
Then a few pages
I messed up and had to tape in.

Try to experiment and have fun seeing what you create.

Journals can be works in progress and take some time.
Work
at your own pace.

Here is a journal I just tied.
Hard to believe this was 10 years ago.
I haven't aged a day.
This is not a junk journal but good info

And the thread where we worked.

Here are a few more videos that show how others have worked.

Re: Classical Art 1st "Junk Journal" Project

all rightie then.....it was amazing....I began assembling the stuff I'd accumulated and didn't think I had any envelopes and voila....they began materializing right before my eyes......hubbie got the mail and it was more pages for FREE!!'
' I have one bunch of signatures that are semi glossy....but nice and large...and one medium size and one of just envelopes.....after all the assembling I did get one of them bound.

BUT....I cheated....I used some paper from a fun pad I got at target to line the interior cover. ....Check out the cool last years calendar photos I used for the cover.....and yes....I CHEATED AGAIN.....used some orange duct tape to strengthen the binding and cardboard cover.....

OVER ALL .....I've got two more journals to be bound...and alot of pages to get WILD with !!!!!

I Loved everyone's photos so here's some of mine....

Re: Classical Art 1st "Junk Journal" Project

Glad to have you watching along Susan!

After paying bills, have a new supply of envelops to add to the
junk journal. So will continue to work in the background as time
permits.

There is a new project to checkout:

June's Using Stamps and Stencils
http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show....php?t=1397998

I want to thank June, Robin, Janet for their encouragement to start this program.

It's not something you normally think of doing when creating art. It's good to think outside the box.

It's been fun. I hope everyone sees the potential in their journals
and enjoys the exploration of creating new work.

This project started as a month long program, ending tomorrow, Feb 6th
but it is apparent
that these type journals are not a quick month process.

We encourage you to please continue to post
your junk journal work or add comments.

We'll be sure to see them and encourage you along.

So funny, Lol Susan, those bills come each and every month.
I'll take all the green dollar bills you want to send me.
I've been trying to collect those.

Re: Classical Art 1st "Junk Journal" Project

Hey, you can't just drop this thread - I say we outta at least carry it for 3 months....really was thinking more like 6 months but I do tend to get carried away with enthusiasm.
BUT I cant explain how working in this makes me feel. I've just done two pages but don't know why it has an intimate free feeling .......and I am all about making my own sketch books from now on.........meanwhile I've two more junkers to bind.......but here are my first two sketches and I'm hooked!!!!

And I wanna try the gelatos June mentioned in her blog. anyone else used them?

The fly sketch is using some homemade oak gall ink I made 6 yrs ago when I first started my art life. It has improved with age.....but I don't put it in my fountain pens cause it is very corrosive.

Also, I'm studying bugs now and then and got out a children's book about drawing bugs but dang.....no flys......I wannted to practice a fly and then a fly showed up and walked and posed for me for about 15 minutes....and hubbie was just gonna wack'im and he was gone.

ya'll have a good day now, ya here

Re: Classical Art 1st "Junk Journal" Project

Hi all. Robin I just love that fly and the fly story to go with it!!!

I think we could keep this thread open until summer as we haven't all had time to kick in and make a junk journal, never mind start to fill it up!

I was also surprised to find how much I enjoyed making the journal...even a teeny one. And I also think it would be good to make a regular sketch or art journal using watercolour papers and craft papers. There's something so satisfying about a hand-made book. I love new shop bought sketchbooks, but the hand-made book is even more delightful!
