Raini, that's bright and beautiful! I love the interplay between the pinks and blues in the water. The blue ripples look so very liquid.

Raini, Your pink tree is lovely! The shape works very well even if it is not (or because it is not) standard size!

Re: The Spotlight - December 2015 - Happy Holidays

Raini, yeah! I don't usually have that problem because I love my mat cutter. Some things in really odd sizes can work well with two paintings in the same frame too, or another window with an inset that's text or calligraphy to balance the long one. It's fun to design around that and then get a standard frame based on the long side measurements.

What would rock in a double hole mat arrangement in a big frame is a square mini maybe three to six inches, that's a close-up of one cherry blossom with bits of others and leaves behind, one of those macro layouts where the man flower occupies most of the painting. Or that and then a two inch mini with just one petal falling against blurred foliage.

Re: The Spotlight - December 2015 - Happy Holidays

Cool! Have a go, either one of the references or something for the holidays! I still have to replace my damaged holiday ornaments sketch to go up for this year's season. Might do that soon.

Re: The Spotlight - December 2015 - Happy Holidays

So nice to see all the beautiful pieces. Raini and Melinda both had scintillating ornaments. I loved the vibrancy or Raini's tree, the simplicity of Robert's, and the soft prettiness of Blayne's with the reflections. It's so fun to see how different interpretations people make of similar themes... and, of course, the adorable Christmas bird

Here is my contribution, now that I finally pulled the pastels out again. This is the Echinacea on dark red Canson Me Tientes.

Kedwards, beautiful! Loose and painterly with great color and solid form!
I see warm sunny days, lazy hazy and buzzy with bees! And me floating on a boat at the lake...what? ...wake up? ....why? It's snowing! Can't be!..Kedwards said...wha....alright I will shovel...wanders off mumbling to self

Kedwards, Great flowers!! Just the right amount of everything!

Raini! Go back! Go back to your daydream! Warm, buzzing bees...keep those thoughts! (I enjoyed your summer moment too.)

Too busy with holiday to paint holiday. Just that time of year.

Re: The Spotlight - December 2015 - Happy Holidays

Thanks raini and jay, I appreciated that there were some summery "nonseasonal" options in the references this month... But I must say, it's been an extraordinary warm nov/dec here, so i haven't really been feeling the winter season.

kedwards, gorgeous echinacea! I love the shimmering hues of your background too, the soft complement sets off the flower beautifully. Wonderful play of color on the petals and mounded centers. So rich and lively! A gorgeous piece, you should frame and hang this one!
