Pink Gladiolus, 24 x 24, oil on canvas
I painted this a couple of years ago and it was very difficult. I had taken photos of my gladiolus blooms and cropped some for interesting compositions.
The problem is that photos really flatten out curves and volume. I had to constantly think about convex and concave shapes, spheres, and line perspective.
This was so challenging but fun that I’m thinking about giving up impressionism and moving toward this type of modern painting.
I live in a wooded wetlands and every day I take close-up photos of backlit leaves, weeds, and wildflowers. I’m not lacking for material.
