Dawn Waterfall WIP

I scanned a couple of early stages on this painting, so I thought I'd share them here. Dark gray PastelMat with Caran d'Ache Neopastels.


Sketch and sky blocked in.


Built up more color and worked out some changes from the sketch.

Finished version. It was supposed to have "muted orange-red" rocks, but, in that dawn light they just didn't want to be muted!

Robert, I like the complementary colors, especially the orange sky and the purple water in the foreground. Nice colors in the cascading water, too. The rocks rock in the warm early sunlight.

This is a really interesting painting to view Robert. I especially like your use of colors and the cascading water, flowing nicely among the rocks!

wow, thank you! It came out better than I thought it would when I was about halfway in the middle - at that second stage I was sure I'd wrecked it.

This is looking great Robert. I particularly love the purples/blues within the trees and water contrasting the sky and rocks. Nice movement of color and energy .
