Re: Stitch in Time, May 2017

The black hole dress is finished as far as I am going to go until I can fit it.
Now I am working on the jacket. It is also black but more of a "wrinkled" taffeta rather then a mat black rayon. Much easier to work with.

The week has been hell. The dog is sick and will be boarded while I am in Whitehorse and have an operation. They broke into our garage and stole my bike and tools. And I am trying to understand the forms regarding the investments.
I should be working in the garden, getting it ready but there is just not enough "spoons" right now. I need to make food to freeze so my sister can eat for 2 weeks. And I sill have stuff that should be emptied from dads apartment.

Re: Stitch in Time, May 2017

Jen, still haven't touched the camera much. I started to, then the battery died. I moved onto other things, I really need to get back to it. Let us know how the show goes. With a title like "summer of love" it sounds like the 60's.

Lena, glad the prom dress is going well. I am sorry to hear you've been robbed. I'm glad it was only the garage and not the whole house. The garden may have to be a wash this year. You've only got so many spoons. Keeping you in my thoughts and sending good vibes your way. Surgery is never a pleasant thing. Boarding the dog is probably the best solution. Take care of yourself. Sending you virtual hugs.

Had DH home, of course, for his off days. Today is full of cooking and laundry and grocery shopping. We ended up cleaning a closet we haven't touched in years. Not much less in it, but we have an inventory now. DH is a bit of a "prepper" He wants to have things in place in case everything goes south. So the closet was where we have our food storage. The stuff is still good, but I hadn't had the forethought to have a list of what was in there before. Now, there is a bit of work to be done since my diet has changed so much trying to clear up my digestive issues. Worst case, of course, I'd eat what we had, but DH doesn't want me getting sick if we find ourselves needing to eat what we stored. Now, I'm supposed to plan how to utilize what I can't eat into food for him and replace with foods I can eat. So, that's what I've been up to. Looking forward to doing some stuff that doesn't involve food.

Re: Stitch in Time, May 2017

Happy Victoria Day!

It is a long weekend here. The traditional First planting day of the season (if you dare and are prepared to deal with frost)

The jacket is almost done - just the collar and lapels to do. It was another interesting challenge as it has issues with heat. Tailoring without an iron! I top stitched most seams - sort of like working with leather. The side and back seams are not yet top stitched since I want to fit it there.

The blue knee socks are done. I started the swatch for the pink medieval socks but I need a smaller needle to get gauge.

The helmet is finally dry and I started with the runic embroidery. It looks good.

Re: Stitch in Time, May 2017

I am still kicking but not on the computer much. Just to hard to spend much time on it because it bothers my eyes. Old age is not nice to me.

You gals all seem busy. I get to the grocery store and the doctors but not much else. Did get out last week to get my hair cut and my toe nails cut. I can't see to cut my toe nails so have to pay for that now. It cost $10 just for some one to cut them. $35 if I wanted the whole treatment. No way for me as I think the cost is too much.

I did have a nice Mother's day as oldest son and wife came down and took Pat and I to lunch. Daughter called late in the day and also sent a plant.

I am started back with the acupuncture on Friday. I have been away from it for too long and pain is pretty bad all the time so will see if it works as well as it did last year. Fingers crossed.

Hugs to all and I will post the next time I am on the computer.

Re: Stitch in Time, May 2017

Lena, I expect you being further north than I am, first planting in a garden is generally in June. Last frost date here is May 31. You've been busy with all that knitting and sewing. Looking forward to seeing it all.

Eva, even if you just stop by and say hi, we are glad to hear from you. Hope the acupuncture helps again. It should. Glad you had a good mother's day. My son left me a FaceBook message.

I have gotten pictures of the wings I am working on. I want to submit the pattern for approval, but the form doesn't have enough room for what I'm doing. I've sent an e-mail asking for help and/or instructions on what to do next. In the meantime, I'll show you what they look like.

Re: Stitch in Time, May 2017

Yes up here it is usually the first weekend in June, Back in the lower mainland of Ontario and in Montreal and Halifax on the coast it is Victoria day.

I was hoping to get the garden in but today it is very hot (ok +29c but I had the heat on last week!) and sometime tonight or tomorrow morning a major weather front is moving through with warnings of flood, high winds, maybe tornadoes with the thunderstorms (or even snow ). So nothing is happening except bring stuff under shelter later when it is cooler.

I will try and get some pictures taken before I leave.

Eva it is always good to hear from you. Yes getting old is a pain. We had some stuff delivered for the house and concrete bags and 2x4s are so much heavier then they used to be......

Re: Stitch in Time, May 2017

Lena, the weather is chancy this time of year. It did get hot yesterday, cooler today, and yes, more rain and wind and possibly snow here too. When are you leaving?

I've gotten a bit of energy back this week. (Finally!) So, I've been working on making a superhero type costume for a doll clothing pattern. I've never worked with spandex before. But, I did finally cut the material and sew up a prototype. I did not hem, tack down facings or even put in velcro or a zipper in the back because I wasn't sure it would work. I'm actually surprised that it sort of works. Here's a picture.

Re: Stitch in Time, May 2017

I am packing up to go to Whitehorse. The prom outfit is in my carry on just in case.

We survived the storm intact. One of our neighbours lost 1/4 of his roof shingles and there are many fences leaning at 45 degrees. One of the people I usually chat with when walking the dog lost a tree. Somehow the tree literally flipped over his fence into the road without touching it, he has no damage otherwise. He was still amazed and cleaning up when I talked to him the next day.

I have spent the last week (except for the storm day) running around and doing things for the estate and preparing to be away. I think I managed to pull one weed.....
