Re: Cheetah - Wip

Good advice everyone. The other thing i would mention irfan is the Inktense or watercolour pencils. I did my tiger and kanga with them. They do take a bit of getting used to but if you are into colouring your works, you can get many different shades out of each pencil, depending how much you dilute them. Saves a lot of time and trouble in mixing inks to get the exact colour. Experiment with a few first. You can buy watercolour pencils singly at good art supply stores and at Dick Blicks. I have a set of 72 and I have used every one of them.

One suggestion though. The colours don't look true to the actual colour on the pencil. I drew a dot of each one on some watercolour paper (diluted half of the dot). Then I wrote the colour number beside it. I just look at the page to see exactly what colour I need and can go straight to it instead of rambling around through the tin trying to find the right colour.

Re: Cheetah - Wip

Thanks for all the great advice everyone and your comments!!

Harold, I didn't know that so thanks!!!

Lesley, thanks for the colouring advice. After doing a coloured peacock I am drained with colour scratchboard, it is too much hassle! As I tend to colour, scratch, colour a lot and it is really time consuming for me, but I won't get sick of all the coloured beauties everyone does here.

Got another update.

The only place I have done inking on is the nose and eyes which are finished.

I am purposely overscratching, so some areas that are light like the spots and stripes will be darkened once I reink.

All C and Cs are welcome!!

Thanks for looking.

Re: Cheetah - Wip

Irfan. Your cheeta is looking wonderful. I lent my airbrush to my son so have been using an alternate also. I use a dip pen with a very small nip, so build up the hairs, gently. I dilute the ink into different shades and store in a small bottle. It seems to work. see picture of cougar in the silverpoint rose thread. I will be watching with interest. I always learn so much from the works in progress. Jan

Great job thus far Irfan!

Also I feel your pain with 21 under 31. I've yet to start my piece, and its plenty complicated (and not a tiger ). I hope you can find something! I only have 9 more years to win..less than that if I want to do that younger than Cathy did (I'm watching you Sheeter -_-).

Thanks for all the advice and comments everyone!!

Susan - It really is a pain, oh well what can I do. I need to take a few trips this summer and gets some shots of southwestern wildlife. I got 11 years to do it. "I'm watching you Sheeter ", made me laugh. I am not entering this year, maybe next year and good luck with your entry and am looking forward to it as a WIP.

Harold - While you fear being redundant, there are some of us that read this forum to learn as well as enjoy the great art. So please, when you have knowledge, share. It will be the first time for someone -like me.
