Re: "Untitled Tiger" - Wip

Gee, Irfan...I thought you got serious a looong time ago!...your macaws and recent peacock come to mind...they're excellent pieces...be sure to enter them in competitions, too, when you enter this tiger. I sure like the look on it's face!

You are young enough, both in years and to art, to enter some competitions at the student level if they have it. As several have said, use your age to your advantage.

Re: "Untitled Tiger" - Wip

Thanks Tracey, Harold and Lorna for your great comments!

Yip I am back with an update! Spent some time doing some work on it.

I know it looks a bit all over the place. I am the sort of person that likes to do a bit here and a bit over there so that I can get a feel for the composition.

So far the wood effect has been difficult I have still do some more but I thought I should start it early on. I hope I have pulled it off. The left side of the log is close to being finished!

Oh and don't get me started on the leaf.

The upper part of the tiger's head will be darkened to make it appear as if it is coming forward underneath the log. However I am not sure if it should be darkened diagonally since the log is in a diagonal position. It is not clear in my reference.

All C and Cs are welcome and thanks for looking!

Re: "Untitled Tiger" - Wip

How very cool this is. I like that the focus of the tiger is not on the viewer. It makes the viewer want to "fil in" what it is looking at. Great story piece.
When a 19 year old can say the word "serious" with a straight face it is time for us all to get scared, very scared!
Though I must say by the time I was 19 I was a mom. Not that uncommon back in the '60s.

Re: "Untitled Tiger" - Wip

Thanks Patrick and Diana!

I have a question, someone in the A&W forum told me that the knot in the branch looks like an eye??? I can't see it, can you? If you can how would I go about fixing this?

Thanks in advance!

This is really coming along nicely. It is at that mystery and drama stage creating great anticipation.

I can see it, but I wouldn't touch it just yet. Wait until the tiger is completed to see how much the knot detracts from the main subject. I have a feeling it will be alot more subtle and will add to the feel of the piece. Sometimes artwork takes on a life of it's own and contributes to it's own creation. I think it is a good thing to let it do that.
