Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Here is my Old Barn in Autumn (photo by Paula).
I really enjoyed painting this. I went very earthy in colour scheme to give the feeling of Fall.

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Very wonderful work here.
Sandra - love your illustrations. The color & lines are so delightful.
Dan - love your oil work. Great colors & strokes. And I like your sky very much.
Don - Beautiful & serene. Love the reflections.
Peg - Wonderful fall color palette. Such warm tones, love the feeling from it.

I painted one of these over the weekend. It rained most of Saturday, and it seemed to have affected the painting - as my colors are more subdued. So I call it rainy fall day.

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet.

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Paula - Many thanks..to me, earthy warm colours are very inviting.

Nan - Thank you.. I really like how you form your bushes. Your trees look so realistic. I think I am almost afraid to layer too much. I need to learn to relax more.

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Thank you, Paula, Peg, Nan, for your comments.

Peg, your piece reminds me so much of the children's book illustration. Very nice piece! Love the looseness to it. It's perfect for a Halloween book.

Nan, your piece took a totally different approach. Love the foliage especially. They are so realistic. A damp moist chilly morning, it looks.

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Beautiful paintings! Upstate New York is such a pretty place - and there's still a lot of open space there, too.

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Paula, your photos are most inspiring and I enjoyed this one on this cold, rainy afternoon. It appears our plein air season is careening to a halt. I have field sketches to work from but this one, in particular, called out to be tried. Oil on panel 9X12. I'll be looking in to see what others have posted. There will surely be good response to the offerings for October. I welcome all C&C Dan

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Hi Marcia, I like the colors you have chosen; sky is rich and your purples complement the ochres. It's so interesting to see how different are the results when several paint from the same reference. I just attempted this one today after weather has frustrated pleing air work early in the season. Dan

Re: October Landscape Challenge!!

Nancie, your barn is well-rendered and I especially like your foliage, as others have said; especially the near right-side dark tree. I thought I had that tree about right but the photo and upload seem to have 'done their own thing.' It shows too light. Fun to see these different approaches to the same reference. Dan
