Monthly CP Challenge - August 2009

Rules for the Monthly CP Challenge

1) Use one or more of the ref photos posted at the beginning of the Challenge thread. Feel free to adapt the refs to suit your creativity & imagination. Change the crop, add, subtract, combine them, etc.!
2) State which ref you are using & credit the photographer in your first post.
3) Please list the size of your piece, type of support (stonehenge, watercolor paper, colorfix, etc.), and type of pencils you are using. If you are using watersoluble pencils, please let us know if you are using them wet or dry.
4) Mixed media is ok, but because this is the cp forum, colored pencil should be the dominant medium used in your piece.
5) If you would like help along the way, please post your work as wip's (work in progress) in this thread. This is especially helpful if you're new to cp. It's always easier to change things early on! If there is something specific you want help with, Ask! What's bothering you may not be obvious to everyone else.
6) The Monthly CP Challenge threads will remain open for six months. You may post your work in the appropriate monthly challenge thread as long as it is open, even if a new challenge has begun. The current challenge will be stickied at the top of the forum.
7) There are no experts here! Some participants may have more experience with cp than others, but everyone is here to learn. Feel free to experiment, branch out, and push your boundaries. Of course, the most important thing: Have Fun!

Here are the refs... as always, larger versions are available in the RIL. Although the larger version of the last one isn't that much bigger... but it was tooooo cute to pass up!

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - August 2009

Thanks, Jeff!

Couple of odds & ends I forgot to mention when I posted the refs...
There is no *extra* challenge this month. I had intended for folks who wanted to push themselves a bit more to pick one of the refs and use colored paper for it. Things got away from me & I forgot to remind y'all so you'd have a chance to get some colored paper if you didn't have it laying around! So. I'd love to see folks give it a whirl, but it *will* be the "extra" challenge for another month sometime soon.

Also, the RIL is soooooo close to being fixed (whoo-hoo! ) and I'm starting to make notes of some pics to upload to use for these challenges. So if anyone has any suggestions about subjects or particular issues they have, feel free to send me a pm so I can make sure we get to it!

And lastly, my kiddo is at the tail end of his summer break. We're frantically trying to cram in all the stuff we meant to do over the break, so my brain is fried & my time is tight & I haven't been commenting on everyone's work the way I'd like to. Boy-o is back in school mid-august, but I'll be *very* surprised if things settle down before September. So bear with me & my silence/absence. I am reading through & keeping up with everyone's work even if I'm not nattering away at y'all about pushing the darks or fuzzing out your edges.

Rosemary

Oh....I have to do the puppy!!!! And maybe I will push myself to do a landscape and do "Evening Peace". (I have never done a landscape.) I have several photos of sunsets on my wall that my son took, who is a semi-professional photographer, so maybe I can display my sunset beside his.

I've got to do the puppy! Dogs are one of my usual subjects. May try the sunset as well for a stretch - Don't usually do landscapes.

Thanks for the challenge!

Oh these are beautiful Tess, fantastic choice. I love all of them but the grapes are lovely and I can't wait to let myself loose with all that colour!

Mushroom is coo and I love the gate. You may or may not know I have a 'thing' about gates, doorways and portals of all kinds.

Oh my goodness, these references are great. I want to do them all........
I want to do ones with more color this time, maybe I'll just start with the first one and work hard.

Hmmm, I hope I'll do better this time I like the first picture the most. I think I need to work on a smaller format, though...

evening peace by Malope

Well decided on the sunset on black paper. Very differnet for me. This is rather small 8x10. Prismas

I'm just experimenting but I think I like the differnet paper color.

ooo, that was fast, Jeff . Nice, very expressive. I like the way you've drawn water the most.
