Re: Monthly CP Challenge - June 2009

Am I correct in understanding that watercolor pencils are considered to be colored pencils? Just seeing what tools I have available

Thank you, Rosemary! I am still working on swatches, but it's coming along much better. Achieving the correct values in color seems a LOT harder than graphite, but the name of the post IS Monthly CP challange. Plus, I'm having a good time with it!

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - June 2009

Hi All! I got started on the tomato on the first as to me for me it looked the hardest value wise!! Make sense? At any rate, here is my version of the Tomato by Olika.

Hope your next version of the tomato goes easier for you Lish.

Rosemary, enjoy the summer with your son, they are only young once!! We'll look forward to see you when you can.

ADRIA

Have no idea why my pictures are coming out pixelated lately. They are small enough, maybe the resolution is wrong. Will do better next time hopefully.

Great tomato, Adria! The tonal differences of the tomato and the colors in the background/shadow really make it pop. The pixels show which colors are prominant, but I'd love to see it clear.

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - June 2009

Thank you Lish and zebby for looking at the tomato. Forgot to tell what pencils and support!! Always do that for some reason! Used Koh-i-Noor Woodless pencils and Bristol Smooth. The original is on 9 x 7" paper. For here I cropped it a bit. Now lets see if I may have fixed the pixelating problem.

This is MUCH better!!

Great job on the tomato, Adria! It was kind of neat pixilated! It looked a little abstract! Very colorful, too!

I'll look forward to seeing your tomato, Lish! I hope to start on mine on black paper soon. I dusted my pencils off today and did a sketch for the sketching from life thread.

Love the clear photo of your tomato, Adria! Stunning!! Thank you for posting!

Welcome, Zebby! I'm new, as well. Just found this site about a week ago. If you haven't already, check out the library. There is a wealth of information there!

Re: Monthly CP Challenge - June 2009

Hey all ... I decided to join in. I'm off for the summer and I needed a little piece to get me started. I chose the flower because I love lots of color. This was done with Neocolor II as the under painting and colorsoft pencils on the top done on arches coldpress paper. I have only done haff the flower so far, I switched to a bigger piece I need to work on.

This was fun .

Danna, your rose has such delicate colours. It's beautiful.

Adria, the tomato came out great! I've been fooling around with my Koh-I-Noor Progresso woodless pencils lately too, they're a lot of fun. You got great deep color and saturation on them and your choice of values really makes the tomato pop.

Danna, that rose is beautiful. I love how you show the underpainting and established the values so well in it while it's in progress, can't wait to see it finished.

You're giving me ideas, both of you.
