Scott, which side of the Stonehenge do you recommend using?

Re: Bottles WIP

Chris, do you have any progress to show on the bottles? I would love for you to stop by and take a look at my vodka bottle on my thread, and let me know what you think.

Char I will say it is very hard to tell with just one's touch - well at least it is for me. However, when I was at Ann Kulberg's class she told us to run the tip of or fingers over it and the side that catches a little bit is the side to use because it has more tooth to the paper.

Now that being said I don't know half the time if I am in fact using the right side or not, but so far so good

My next CP piece will be on stonehenge, I actually really liked the paper, even moreso than Bristol. I am also hoping to get some Illustration board to try out one of these days.

Sorry to throw the thread off topic... Chris, can't wait to see more progress

Re: Bottles WIP

Scott - thanks for the poster putty tip - it seems to work better than the erasers. Not sure If I'm sold on stonehenge just yet though

Here's an update:

Cruising along slowly. It's not so easy getting into the art mood after 8+ hour work days and house hunting on the weekends. Not that I'm making excuses

I've brought indigo blue into the dark areas and I've also introduced periwinkle blue along with slate blue.

The lettering has been the biggest challenge so far, and I want to take my time on it to get it to look right. Unfortunately there is alot of lettering - it gets easier as I go. I just have to try to stay patient. Once I start rushing I put the pencils down. It's not a race - right?

Re: Bottles WIP

So cool!
Good luck with the house hunting! I fully understand you on the work ! Im away from my house 10+ hours a day. Not much chance to indulge in art until days off.
Indigo and periwinkle were excellent choices. This is coming along so awesome, taking your time will pay off and you'll be much happier with the piece.

Indeed - you have my deepest sympathies... this was one, if not the biggest, reason for putting out so few works over the years I cooked, cheffed, and baked [and I had more like 10 hours per to deal with], despite wanting the art to be how made my living...

Still, what you're rendering is coming along great...

Yup- I didn't produce anything for 2 years because of that very reason. When I was laid off for the 3rd(!!) time in one(!!!) year, I decided that was enough. I am going to make it somewhere in the illustration field, nothing yet, but I'm fixing my own mistakes, not someone else's. I really have give chops to my better half, she feels, like I do, this is right, so we'll see.

Great start- I want to do some bottles as well, so your getting me thinking...

Same here - have in mind a row of them on a porch rail looking out over the beach to the water beyond, each bottle's label with a different figure - except one, seen thru the bottle ... to give it right, there'd be nine of them , since it'll be called "A Musing Beach Life"...

so, watching this progress will be of help to me...

Re: Bottles WIP

Thank you Dory, Robert and Steve!

Sorry to hear about your jobs Steve - hopefully it will work out - I'd love to make a living as an artist, it just doesn't seem feasible for me

I think I might try to scan this with an older scanner I have - it's not very big either, but I think it will lend itself better to scanning a larger picture. I'm not happy with these blurry looking pictures - I like to have to progress shots for my own posterity purposes.

Re: Bottles WIP

Woah - has it been 2 weeks?! Usual excuses

I'm pushing into the green area a bit - because blue is making me blue. Doing the lettering is a brain teaser, and then when you do enough, a brain microwaver!

I gotta pace myself because well there is alot of lettering. I took on a little more than I'd like to chew I now realize - but chew I will even until I get sick!

Next project is going to be something simple - like ...... a grape.

I'm with you, there. And I teach, so my work doesn't always stay at work. But bills must be paid.

I like doing glass. I'm enjoying watching your progress. Though I don't envy you all the lettering!

Good luck with the house-hunting! Are you searching in Brookyn? Did the prices tank there, too, or have things held their value?
