Re: March Landscape Challenge!

Thanks for all the nice comments from one of the best groups on WC, very nice entries already done! and I thought I was jumping right on it. Here is stage 2, with the canvas covered and base colors, must bear down now and get to work on it:

Trees of Colour

I had a lot of fun painting this one, although I may have pushed the palette a bit, it was enjoyable. Sometimes I want to break out the painting knife and sometimes I want to more detailed work, this one had knife written all over it. I look forward to these monthly challenges and hope to see everyones work!

Re: March Landscape Challenge!

These are all so fantastic already. Dan I especially like yours, the colours and the technique you have used, it just looks brilliant. I am just trying to find the time to get started but hope to soon. Thanks Paula for the wonderful photos, they certainly are challenging, well, for me anyway, but it makes you move out of your comfort zone and that's a good thing.

Nicely done Della, you controlled your greens well!
Well done Dan! May I ask what does it mean if you say "I may have pushed the palette a bit."

Re: March Landscape Challenge!

Looking great Sid! I like how you added the sun way back in there!

Dan, Beautiful piece!! I like how you pushed the color on this! You also have a nice painterly style.

Re: March Landscape Challenge!

Great job Sid and Dan. So Dan are you saying that is all done with pallet knife?

Hi Jan, thank you for the kind comment. Welcome to WetCanvas.

To me, pushing the palette means to exagerate the known colours and present them in high levels of intensity and hue saturation.

Re: March Landscape Challenge!

Wow, Sid's and Dan's interpretation are so different. Very nice, Sid. Yours looks dreamy. Dan, yours is even prettier than the photograph!

Re: March Landscape Challenge!

Darn right it is prettier than the photo, that is what this painting stuff is all about to me, it is like looking into another world. Nothing nicer than comments like those. I saw in that second photo the makings of one of those tonal landscapes that are just that, real dreamy looking, thanks.

Re: March Landscape Challenge!

Paula, Kenny, and Sandra...thank you for your comments. Yes, I did about 90% of this painting with a knife, it is amazing how a painting knife releases your artistic spirit!

Re: March Landscape Challenge!

Here is a small sketch I did of the 1st photo tonight (I sure am rusty!!). It's soft pastels on ampersand pastelbord. I've painted this photo before. Down below is the large version I painted a couple of months ago.
