Re: August Landscape Challenge

Paula- Thanks for your kind words. I keep telling myself to embrace colour. I can't wait to see your rendition.

Claire- Thanks for your comments. I better warn you. Once you start playing with pastels you will be addicted.

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Hi all, love your choice of colours Doug, those oranges really jump forward from the tourquoise bg. Nice work Kathy, love the way you've painted the trees and made them your own. When I first saw your lovely ref photos Paula I thought I'd have a crack at one if I had time, so I made some . My offering is in watercolours on approx 16 x 10 inch stretched bockingford practice paper. I called it 'under the pink sky', any C & C welcome...Shell

...the colour repro here is not wonderful, the original is more colourful, more hot orangey in the foreground.

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Hey-hey-hey Paula!

Gorgeous photos! The first one calls my name too! Gotta paint it.

Hm, the one you want to wipe out, Paula, I love it, most of it is wonderful. To me, it is the 'runway' ending of the road that is a bit abrupt. A simple fix, really, so I hope it has not gone to the rainbows. Make the edge of the road where it turns downwards (it does, IRL, right?) hazy, lost-ish, and the tree/bush behind it emerge a bit higher up on the tree, so there is no hint of land and roots, and Bob's your Uncle.

Be back to comment on other people's beautiful paintings!

Re: August Landscape Challenge

I really like seeing all of the different interpretations of these photographs - everyone here has made them their own with their specific style!
Kathy - love the airy, atmospheric feel to your rendition.
Shelley - you really put your own stamp on this - what a beautiful painting! Especiall like your sky.

Talking Re: August Landscape Challenge

Kathy- Love your tree. There is so much depth to it. I keep going back and studying it.

Shelley- I would love to see the original if it is more colourful than this! Great use of colours.

This is a great thread. It is so beneficial looking at all the different renditions of the same photos. I am now working on my second painting. Looking forward to seeing more.

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Trying to learn how to use pastels. Have used them a few times and this is my first attempt at a landscape using pastels. I plan on trying Paula's other beautiful photos also.

Beautiful Kathy! I love those trees and that sky...really soft and lovely romantic piece.

Shelley, So glad you had the time to do this. It's really beautiful and that pink sky is stunning! I love watercolors.

Linn, For someone just starting in pastels, you sure have a handle on it! Gorgeous, colorful piece. Great job on this one!!

Hey Monte!!

Great painting! You have so much depth in those trees and I love the touches of orange in the foreground. Beautifully done!

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Linn- Way to go. You did a good job layering the colours. You should do more pastels.

Fred- Very nice painting. I like your style.

Monte- Wow. I agree with Paula about the depth. Great job with the leaves.

Well, I just stopped painting to have lunch and check in here. I just have a few touch ups and sky holes to do and I will be posting my 2nd painting. I have always wanted to paint landscapes but couldn't paint a tree to save my life. I am so glad I stumbled upon this thread. I is a challenge worth doing. I will be back in a while.

Doug
