Re: August Landscape Challenge

Emi, a lovely scene in graphite!

Claire, love the colours and your interpretation.

Paula, don't wipe it! It's simply lovely and I have just the place to hang it. Send it here, send it here.

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Here's my try at the second photograph. It's an oil painting done today, 5X7 on canvas panel, using a limited palette.

Afternoon

All C&C welcome.
Thanks,
Claire

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Some really lovely work here. I especially like to see the different interpretations of the same photo. Here's one of my efforts, 8x10 oil on hardboard.

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Love the red undertones in the green, Nancy. Checked out your website - VERY nice work!!! I usually work much larger, and just recently decided to do some small paintings (for many of the reasons you note on your home page). This has been a lot of fun - especially with the great photos that were provided for this month's challenge!

Oh Paula the road to Jasper makes me want to go back to Tennessee again! Just so soft and lovely; your pastels are topnotch!

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Claire - I really like the colours you've used. Makes you feel the warmth of the sun.
onefinepint - I love the colour surprise of red and magenta. Gives a somewhat otherworldly feel that I like.

To everyone who commented on my drawing, many thanks! You guys certainly eased my worry about posting a B&W rendition in a colourful forum.

Doug - it's about 7" x 5" drawn in my sketchbook. The paper texture is slightly more noticeable than Bristol vellum. I used H, F, HB and 2B. I did use 4H but only for the sky as a first layer to smoothen the texture.

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Claire- On your first painting, I too like the colours. It also has a softness to me and is very calming.

The second painting shows alot of depth. I like the rendering of the tree. Good job.

onefinepint- Great bold colours. Love the sky.

Emi- Thanks for the info. I am always curious what people use in drawing. I have always loved drawing and I might just dust off my pencils and give it a go. It's funny. One reason I was drawn to pastels is because of the beautiful colours but I am also drawn to graphite on paper. (Pardon the pun)

Doug

Re: August Landscape Challenge

Thanks to all who have said such kind words about my painting.

JMax--I agree the photo you chose is tricky, but you've done a good job of it. The color and texture is appealing. My version of the same photo wasn't working, so I wiped the fence out. What is left still doesn't please me, so no post of my efforts today. I'll look forward to seeing more of this little challenge.
