Scavenger Hunt #86 May 17-May 25

Since EP's time as host was limited by the WC shutdown, I decided to hold off posting mine until it was evening on the West Coast.

This time I have decided to be very general in my list so you all have to think a little. And I think you will be able to find things to fit the subjects either inside or out.

Next here are the rules: f you've done at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one, we'd really appreciate it! You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting list in the Art from Life forum:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show...hreadid=366347

Here are the rules for this Hunt:

* All items on the list must be sketched from life - not imagination or photo references.
* Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed to by unanimous vote among the participants.
* You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count those objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one list item.
* All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you sketch and post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.

Do as many or as few items as you like. You don't have to finish the entire list to participate! The Scavenger Hunt "week" will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.

Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you to do each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups.

Photos of your subjects are also welcome.

Now the list:

Now go and have loads of fun. Jeanne

Hey Joe. Hi there. You being a teacher should of figured out how to think. It comes back to you if you try hard. Does hurt a little but keeps the brain alive.

My hubby used to ask me why I took classes when I wasn't planning to go to work. He doesn't realize how rusty office skills get if you don't work for awhile. Plus I like to keep my brain active so it won't die, and I like to stay in touch with the world.

Whoa, this thinking stuff is a challenge of it's own. I've been lurking, even printing out every new list. School is over (finally) so I'll have time now to hunt and actually post. Thanks for hosting, Jeanne.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #86 May 17-May 25

Here's my number one- shallow... Mangrove trees on the coral reefs.
These trees grow in shallow sea water, it's about a foot or so deep on the coral reefs here. The far off deep blue is where it suddenly drops off into deep water. There is a shipwreck just behind the trees but I didn't draw it.
I am cheating slightly with this (sorry) because I actually did this whilst out with friends yesterday afternoon.I had to fix bits of it today with some white gouache at home (the white posts and my horizon which had become lost because of a sudden gust of wind)
This took about an hour and a half in watercolours in my big sketchbook (50x35cm)
I am including the photo of the shipwreck because it is just so amazing to see. I hope to go back this week with my paints and an easel

Cairo, that shipwreck is amazing! What a great thing to sketch or paint! Love your watercolor.

Jeanne, thanks so much for this kind of list. I've been sketching quite a bit, but unable to fit my sketches to a "list" lately.

#1: Simple
That was really my theme yesterday. It was a very complicated day in many ways. At the end of the day, I set this apple on a red file folder and painted that as a way of simplifying all the complexities of the day.

Cairo - awesome painting and shipwreck! Any idea what year that happened?
Jamie - great apple. BTW thanks to your raving about Golden Open I have tracked down a much closer art supply place that sells Golden ... so I'm all set for July - is it?
Azul - will do. I changed my ususal walking route last night so I wouldn't run into Mama Bear or Baby bear.
