pAiNt tHiS! cHapTeR 14

pAiNt tHiS!
cHapTeR 14

Hello Arteeeests! This is the fourteenth chapter of an ongoing series developed to share and learn from each other. Here's how it works: We will post reference pictures and everyone will paint the references in their own style.

Instead of delaying the "Paint This" chapter, I will upload the references a few at a time, over a short period of time. This will allow me to take the time to find good references, in an attempt to keep the quality as high as possible.

Note: The reference subject matter will change from chapter to chapter, so don't worry about getting bogged down with the same type of content. We will try our best to keep it fresh.

Feel free to share your techniques and any other thoughts that may benefit others! It's also fine to post your works in progress.

We're all students here... this exercise is for all experience levels... the important thing is to learn and grow. Feel free to jump right in. This project does not discriminate between methods... it's open to all digital techniques... from vector to bitmap... from freehand to manips. Do your thing!... that's what counts!

If your on the fence about participating in this assignment... don't even think about not joining in on the fun!!!

Here are your new assignments...

I have promised that I would start with some nature this time around. I hope these will do the trick...

Flower Power...

Photo by Dolan Halbrook (if you post this image, or your derivative artwork
anywhere else, be sure and give this photographer his credit).

Lake and Sky...

Photo by Michelo Mongardi (if you post this image, or your derivative artwork
anywhere else, be sure and give this photographer his/her credit).

Woman Reclined...

Photo by Jordan (if you post this image, or your derivative artwork
anywhere else, be sure and give this photographer his/her credit).

Water Lily...

Photo by Gary H. Spielvogel (if you post this image, or your derivative
artwork anywhere else, be sure and give this photographer his/her credit).

The Gap...

Photo by Gary H. Spielvogel (if you post this image, or your derivative
artwork anywhere else, be sure and give this photographer his/her credit).

Check back... more references uploaded very soon!

FYI: The next "Paint This" is scheduled for aprox. October 15th

Re: pAiNt tHiS! cHapTeR 14

I am in… and here it is. My personal art jury is still out on this one.
I've been thinking I should use my ancient version of Painter more, so I started in Painter 4, and jumped back and forth to Photoshop 7. I just saw some amazing acrylic paintings in a gallery on Saturday that were of mountains that were alive with color. and so I decided to try this in a similiar style and get really bold with the color. Just about the time I decided that bold with color wasn't for me, I decided to go in with the burn tool in Photoshop and pump up the contrasts here and there.
When I'm not so exhausted, I'd like to take a serious look at this and perhaps I will go back to Painter and try to get some pastel looking strokes of color in there. AND I'd like to work on these poor pathetic clouds too!
Any comments and critiques are most welcome.
Thanks to the photographers for some great images!

LOVELY, Elaine! One of the big advantages of digital art is being able to play with contrast and intensity. Painter works so beautifully with Photoshop, too.

Very expressionistic Bev.

Elaine nice job. I was just looking at that picture and thinking it was a bit boreing but maybe if I added some color it might be pretty. Then I scrolled down and wal la. There it was in living color.

Elaine you have painted such a lovely peaceful scene

Bev terrific look to that flower , almost like looking through rain drops on a window

Here's my mountains, painted them with impressionist brush then went over them with Artists Oils, dry brush the sky and water are just the dry brush

Elaine - I think you have done great with this painting. Your color choices are right on the spot.

Bev - I love the texture accomplished for these flowers. They look great.

Jean - nice texture on the rocks.

SaraD - Great start. Will look forward to its progress. I assume you have not finished it yet since you haven't signed it.
