Re: Project Discussion: Water, water everywhere.......

Ooh - the post has gone out of order!

And my new piccie for the project page says it's successfully uploaded - but it's not there.

OK - there are obviously still some problems with the project system, so what I'm going to do is post all the rest of my reference piccies in this thread and give you the links to the proper size versions of RIL pictures as well as piccies of those as well.

Sorry if this makes the thread slow down for some.

Nice piccie by the way Trudette - wait until you see my ducks, well not mine exactly.........but guess which one I want to do

Right this one is to persuade you that water really has no colour - and reflects what is around - a photo of by Jackson Pond by William Gunther

The next one The Waterline is by one the more prolific contributors to the RIL Joe Majury

The next one is by Snowgoose and is called Ducks swimming in the Fall

Re: Project Discussion: Water, water everywhere.......

And some of mine. First, a view I've done already but might have another go at. This is the Canal Du Midi

And you know I said I tried to choose restaurants with good views - well this what was next to restuarant where I had a top notch lunch in the Dordogne last summer. This is to test of those who want to have a go at reflections right way up - and upside down. Tricky - but very absorbing.

And here are some more gondolas and Grand Canal views from last month's painting holiday in Venice

I'm in. I was trying to decide what to do next. This is it!

I'm not sure which one I am going to try. There are a few that look really interesting to me. This is going to be fun.

OK folks - I'm being a bit project leaderish here - here's a WIP. It's a crop of the gondolas photo which was in the Venice blog thread.

C&C welcome - and then I get this one finished and move on to the next one! Tee hee!

Ooh Lovin' it Katherine!

Okay here's the pic I want to use, I'm very intimidated by this one, not the water so much, since it is, after all, shiny stuff But I'm really worried about the trees which are not my forte at all....unless it's one shiny leaf at a time! I hope to get started on this one soon *gulp*. It's a close crop of one of my pics taken at the Nile River Valley, West Coast NZ (not the other nile obviously )

Beautiful photos posted here

Katherine, that is looking awesome so far, you're so speedy - so I know we won't have to wait too long to see it finished I can't wait! Love the colors and the strokes - nice color paper too!

Wendy, that photo is amazing!!!
Do not worry about the trees, if you can do water (glass), you can do trees! See, you don't have to draw every single leaf and branch. Someone else can correct me or suggest something else, but if it were me, I'd block in all the darkest darks where those trees, leaves and branches are. All those patches of dark area's. Then immediately you'll be less intimidated. Then perhaps take an area at a time and block in more from the darker to lighter areas? If you approach it that way, almost like filling in negative spaces first, (this would be the darkest spaces first) you won't have to feel like you're drawing every single leaf.

Re: Project Discussion: Water, water everywhere.......

Ooh thankyou Liesl, that makes it sound a bit less intimidating! I'll try that. It just seems very overwhelming when there's quite that much jungle around which is why I cropped the picture quite a lot smaller than the original! There's sooooo much jungle!

Re: Project Discussion: Water, water everywhere.......

Wendy - Liesl has given you excellent advice. Forget it's a tree and think glass! Look for large shapes, think about what colour the lightest layers are and get that in first, then lots of negative painting will do the trick. I know this one says it's about water but people will be trying out trees as well!

I'm a bit worried about your photo. What's the focal point? Try doing a quick values studies in graphite to work out how you're going to do it first.

Gayle - super photo!
