Re: Portrait of Abby WIP

tommy - i know i'm late for the party but WOW!!!

man, you've done a great job on that first study - that could stand all by itself in my books

you suggested that this is a harvest moon? perhaps a little more orange in there? and you think a dragon in the sky.... how 'bout the aurora borealis aka northern lights? you would be able to see them up in your neck of the woods in late august.

just my 2 cents - can't wait to see this progress...

cheers,
gord

Re: Portrait of Abby WIP

Judy, I think I'll go have a look this evening at what happens in the kind of lighting I'm thinking of. I'm merely working from my imagination so I should go have a look. I've already transferred the linear onto the Strathmore paper and yes, there's fringe on each corner of the rug.

Trudette, that sounds like a perfect idea. Hopefully the piece will be good enough to print. The little girl was just too tiny to get a good face in the color rough. She'll look like the linear. Curious. (I think it's curious LOL)

Kathy, thanks for the info.

Gord I hear you on the moon. I may do what Maggie suggested and do a halo effect with a white-ish moon and consider it later in the evening. Don't know yet. I'd need darker for the aurora borealis I think and I don't want to go darker. Good idea though.

Looks good Tommy! I like the idea of the halo too. Now don't hurt your wrist on the account of us pestering you for an update.

Re: Portrait of Abby WIP

I suppose the sunset "lighting" would depend on the time of year and how far north you live ( or not ) dunno really. Sometimes though, I've thought it was a mysterious light - a sort of strange low glow on everything (probably that pollution...heh heh).

Not sure of the halo ...could distract from Abby, as I would also think the aurora borealis would in this piece (maybe for another one though). Ahhh, a toughie, but it's all in your imagination to pull it through really. I have faith in you!

Glad them carpets have fringe!

Tommy I think back lit would be wonderful. But I am very partial to back lighting. I have alot of experience with flying carpets but i am usually on my back looking at the stars so can't help with the feet. wanda

Re: Portrait of Abby WIP

(I am trying this Quick Reply, as I am curious to see what the difference is...)

When you started talking about it, I was imagining it very, very dark, and now I like best your darker version, which BTW shows very colourful on my monitor.

I am looking forward to see you start the "real thing"... Oh...! No smilies here...

Tommy, I love what you have done so far, and can't wait to watch it on its flying journey.

Re: Portrait of Abby WIP

I just saw this thread. I don't know how I missed it before. Maybe the majic carpet was invisible when I was online.

Maggie, I loved your comments about the majic carpet!!

Raquel, you can do at least a simple smiley in the Quick Reply like I did. Just type colon and right parentheses, : then ). I haven't tried any of the others but my guess is that you can type what ever shows up in the text when you press your favorite smiley.

Yes, if you know the keystrokes for your favorite smileys, all you have to do is type them.

Tommy, this is going to be fab. Can't wait for updates, but don't hurt yourself doing them.

Tommy, don't listen to Kathy. I'm impatient. Give us updates now. Hurt yourself while doing them.

Well, you don't have to hurt yourself, but don't spare yourself any either. C'mon!

He's making us wait....anticipation is supposed to make the wait better, but I sure would like to see what's happening! You know it's going to be such a lovely painting. Please don't hurt yourself though Tommy.

Tommy, I'm very excited to see this one come to life! I don't mind if it goes really slowly, I love suspense, anticipation, cliff-hanger's, butterflies - you get the picture!
