Hey Newbies! Show me your beads!

Hello All, I'm a newbie here... thought I'd post a few photos of some beads I've been working on. I can't believe the long bead came out so I had to take a pic... I know they aren't perfect but its practice. I had to clean house this week so I didn't get much torch time but I hope to have more photos soon.

Alright I wanna see some more newbie photos so please share some of your newbie beads both good and bad ones welcome!

Amy

Re: Hey Newbies! Show me your beads!

I took my first class in November, but didn't get my studio set up until mid-Jan. I am still a newbie. I think I have the dot thing down, but the stringer swirls and stuff is still a battle. I just need to sit down and practice and make a few fuglys. Here are my very first beads from my class back in Nov. I look at them and smile (I guess they are like your kids, you love them even if they are ugly). The second set is one I did this last week for fun. It illustrates the Evil Purple and what strangeness I encountered. All I used was black, evil purple, turquoise and copper green.

Oh, BTW, I think this is my 100th post. I wonder what I turn into?

Re: Hey Newbies! Show me your beads!

Here are two of my beads. I really do not make round beads. I do for spacers and such. I have fun making animals and sea things. (fish, Mermaids) Took my first bead class in Feb 2004. Did not even know how to attach my torch to the MAPP gas. Just have a great time and enjoy this board very much!

Re: Hey Newbies! Show me your beads!

WOW Congrats to you guys, those don't look like my newbie beads!

So are you guys on HH's or what kind of torch are you using? I am on a HH.

I think i'm getting torch envy with all the wonderful beads today - is that a real word?

I want to take a class someday, but for now I'm teaching myself by reading anything and everything possible. I have been making beads since November 2003. I live close to Arrow Springs so hopefully after I get back to work I can take some classes there.

Keep the beads comming!

Amy

Re: Hey Newbies! Show me your beads!

Hi Amy, Juli, Idiamond, and Barb,

I am working with a Minor + concentrator and I am very pleased with it. The colors stay bright and it is working fast enough.
I would like to ask you newbies, what diameter mandrels you use.
I mostly use 2 millimeter mandrels.

I hope to post some new beads next week!

bye bye,
Annemarie

Hi Everyone,

I think your all doing great!
I have been torching since Feb 2004. I haven't taken any classes(although I would like to), everything I have learned so far is from Cindy Jenkins & Corina's books. Oh, and tons from WC. I joined WC in November but didn't get my studio set up and running until Feb. Everyone here has been so helpful through the whole process. I try to work a couple of hours every night and as much as possible on the weekends. It's amazing how fast time goes when I'm at the torch.

I finally put my first set of beads on Ebay. Wow, is that scary. Check it out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...60902&category I am running out of glass and hopefully they will sell, so I can buy some more. This was very expensive to get started, but I love it. I use a minor torch with oxy concentrator and 1/16 and 3/32 mandrels.

I mostly have trouble keeping my beads small. I keep adding glass and before I know it, I have a whopper! I still have trouble making a round bead. I finally found a way that helps, working in the middle of the mandrel. That helps me alot.

I tried to upload a picture. I don't know if it took. I also don't know if you can see my ebay page with the address I placed here. I just copied and pasted it from the address bar.

Thanks so much for sharing, and have a great day.
Annette

Re: Hey Newbies! Show me your beads!

I am new, took a class in February. Of course most of my items are in jewelry because I am a jewelry fanatic. I have been on the torch a total of 4 times but these were made on tries 2 and 3. I am still learning.

Re: Hey Newbies! Show me your beads!

I've been at it for 5 or 6 weeks now. I am pretty happy with my beads and the way I am slowly improving. Next step is to get my kiln, which I hope to get by September.

Sorry for the quality of the picture...after the kiln I'll think of a digital camera

Re: Hey Newbies! Show me your beads!

Hiya Newbies!

So pleased this thread was started - didn't want to post my pics up against the "pros" - but then I looked at the pics....you guys ARE pros!!

I started about 5 months ago, but with only 1-2 hours per week at the torch, it has taken a while to get anywhere...I have attached a pic of some of my newest beads - I have *gulp* put them up for auction (on Aussie ebay)...will see how they go...

Show us some more newbie beads!!!

Cheers,

Natalia
