Doug

Is image insert the little yellow picture icon? That's what I used the first time when it got lost. I am using an iPad so I emailed it to myself to reduce the size.

And thank you, Doug.

Re: Urban Sketches

Yesterday after church I drove downtown to do this plein air scene in Ecosystem sketchbook 9.5x7 using Staedtler 0.3 pigment liner. On the left is an old theatre and middle is new bar/grill Lumbre and on the right deserted newstand type store that was called Poncho's. Pigeons abound

Re: Urban Sketches

This was my first urban sketch last September when I first started learning watercolor painting. I consider it an urban sketch because I was at Point Defiance park in Tacoma Washington and that's within the city limits, I think. I was sitting on a bench near the overlook toward Vashon Island and that big tree was smack in front of the bench between me and the island so I painted that, too. I didn't finish the sketch because my daughter wanted to go home. It was a little nippy that day last September.

I used my Pentalic 5x8 sketchbook with 140# paper
Jerry Q was my art travel palette

So here it is for what it is:

Re: Urban Sketches

Congratulations on mastering the uploader Ellen.

I bet you can remember lots about the weather, sounds etc while you were sketching. It somehow takes you back.

Re: Urban Sketches

I'm going to try to get out and sketch tomorrow if I can.

Yorky, I do enjoy vivid memories of that first sketching session. I remember it like it was yesterday. I want to go back to Point Defiance again this summer and I want to sketch but also go to the zoo that's advertised as being there and do some sketching there.

One of the things I like about urban sketching is that it makes my whole life seem like an art project to enjoy. In another month or so I'm going back to Oregon to visit and meet my newest great-grandchildren. My art supplies will go with me, of course, I'll be able to come back with lots of painted memories to tide me over till the next time I get to go visit there..
