Get Well card

This is a card made for my grandson after he fell off his bike and put himself out of commission for six weeks. Bad timing for our annual fishing season with a good run of salmon to be dealt with in a few weeks time. Hopefully he will be there to do business. His shoulder is in a sling, so that will need to be sorted out before much fishing will occur.
The illustration is from when he was seven years old and he is carrying his fish in a plastic bag after catching and cleaning them. The boots are about 3 sizes too large but the tops are cut off so they would at least give him some protection. His jacket has some weird skeleton design on it but the hood is hiding part of the top view. Now that he is nine he is much more capable of handling himself, however, he is more prone to other pitfalls also.

The next photo shows the finished cover of the card.

Re: Get Well card

This was done on card stock with pencil crayon doing the majority of the work and the darker colour done with felt markers.

That's a really cute piece of work, Jon. Your grandson should really appreciate it.

Re: Get Well card

A great card! I love the boots, and see that he's carefully watching his steps! So Cute!!!!

I do hope he will join you on the fishing trip, and that he has the strength and mobility to cast and pull in a super fish!

If Doc says "no way," how about starting a new tradition, like going on a plein air trip to capture the great outdoors! Who knows, little Grandson will have other talents like Grandpa besides fishing!

Re: Get Well card

Thank you Margarete,
He is on the mend and is already keenly interested in art. Homeschool encouragement and plenty of time to pursue his interests. The fishing season is just underway and he will be back at it.
I recently painted a design on the oars of my driftboat and he did his own variation of the theme on heavy card stock with markers.

Re: Get Well card

This is a pic. of the design on the oars and I'll post a pic. of his impression of the design when he comes over for a visit tomorrow.

They are large wooden oars with clear fiberglass brushed over the painted fish.

Re: Get Well card

Hey there! I'm glad he is doing better!

I get the impression of Northwest Native art, especially on Painting No. 1, it looks like it may resemble an Orca. I'll check back to see how his impressions look! It's delightful that he has such a strong interest in art! To you and your protégé!

Re: Get Well card

Here is the work of art related to the oars that I painted. He copied one of the paintings on the other side of the oar. This is his rendition of my work on one of the oars.

Re: Get Well card

A big thank you from Leland. Today he went out with me for some fishing and he's showing one of the fish and the oar that he copied which was on the other side of the earlier oar photos.

Thanks for looking in Jocko, I enjoy fishing with my grandson and at the bottom of the page is a card to one of my sons as well. (Happy Halloween Birthday) Check it out if you like. Another fishing buddy.
