Amethyst Cavern Study

This is a work in progress, 4th in the series. I like it and hate it at the same time but it's early yet...

Re: Amethyst Cavern Study

Thanks! I hope I don't wreck it haha. I'm kinda new at painting technique and would love any tips on getting a glow around the monolith, waterfall and energy column. It's 11x14 acrylic on masonite.

Re: Amethyst Cavern Study

Very cool so far.

For a glow you could try taking a small amount of paint on a slightly damp brush and kind of rub it on for a soft look. Be aware that this technique eats brushes though lol.

Re: Amethyst Cavern Study

I certainly have a bunch of frazzled brushes, haha. It's so much easier in Photoshop, but that's the old way...

Re: Amethyst Cavern Study

This is looking great. Another way to get a great glow is to have a high contrast with soft edges. this is looking nice and glowy already though so I think whatever you're doing is working.

Love the colors to boot.

Re: Amethyst Cavern Study

I know I have too much going on in one painting but the idea is to discover what is in the cavern for a few more paintings in the series, probably done in multi media. No room for a dragon in this one, haha.

You could probalby get a smallone in there.

I like this very much, your use of color and shapes is quite appealing. Well done.
