I just finished this winter landscape with a Victorian feel (It’s in Wellsboro PA and they have the best Dickens of a Christmas thing going on there) and it’s a 16×24 on hardboard panel.
I typically like to use plein air frames with or without liners (gold, black, mahogany) but I’m unsure if I should do something completely different. This is the painting:

And I was thinking about a frame like this:

but I think I’d also need a liner to offset the painting… or maybe not at all….
Advice is greatly appreciated.November 20, 2019 at 1:08 am #909549I like the second frame (a lot) for your painting. It’s formal but reserved, much like the painting. A liner could go good as well –
The thing with frames is that there are probably other choices out there that could be as good or better, but imo the second one would be among the good ones.
I would suggest you use photoshop to do a mock-up with the painting in various frames. Much depends on the mood you’re trying to convey and place it will be hung.
