"Milla", alla prima portrait, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 cm
Another commission, another sweet little girl. I love painting children, it's too much fun!
I finished two commissions in five days - phew - I have a lot to paint right now with an upcoming exhibition in April + a few (very welcome) commissions. Thanks for looking!

You are very consistent in your painting. A sign of mastery! I think this is one of your better portaits, I've seen. I really like the darks in the eyes, nose and mouth. It gives it depth (also psychologically speaking) and steers it away from being "just a cute children's portrait".

Someone's going to write about you soon. And then you'll be painting full-time. I can smell and feel it, I have for a long time - this is just going to grow.
Lovely portrait, I agree, great observations from Ochre.

Ola, this is brilliant! I love the looseness of alla prima paintings, and you've really nailed it!

Re: "Milla", alla prima portrait, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 cm
Ochre: I'm so glad you said that. I was consciously trying to get away from making the portrait too cute, so I chose a rather dramatic and moody lighting.
Toril: You're too kind, your encouraging words mean a lot to me. Let's just hope you're right. The art world in Sweden is deep into postmodernism, as it has for the last 100 years or so, but I'll keep trying of course.
Irish: Thanks!
Nancy: Thank you! Alla prima is the only way I know how to paint. I've tried underpainting and glazing a couple of times, but it looked truly horrific - nothing like the beautiful traditional paintings you see from the talented folks into classical painting around here.
Carol: So sweet of you! Thank you. It's nice to have a style people recognize, even if that's something I'm not aiming for deliberately.

Another gorgeous, "realistic" piece. Kids are not always smiling and laughing, not always sitting it the sun. You show their essence, and so many seem about to speak.
