Simply put, the Pentalic is not made in the way of Arches. The Pentalic being a blend of fibers, with I believe a synthetic size used, it absorbs and disperses water and color in a completely different manner. It can be used to produce good work, but it feels more difficult to do so on the Pentalic than it does a sheet of Arches.
Now that said, I absolutely love the Pentalic for mixed media work, being cost efficient and perfect for gouache or casein topped with colored pencil, maybe some ink as well... lots of fun stuff one can do there.
